Peace

Revision 11 as of 2006-08-08 22:09:28

Clear message

Welcome to Peace, a new theme proposed by Chuck Huber(z_diver) for the upcomming release of Ubuntu Edgy.

Theme Rational

Ubuntu opts for a new look with each release. Peace can further that goal by including an updated look for past themes Ubuntu offered as default without shearing ties to them altogether. Clearly the trend in UI design is toward ever more features so this theme aims to be slightly lighter, remaining fast and elegant forever.

Goals

To be a lightweight and fast option to Ubuntulooks themes while providing the polish Ubuntu is famous for.

Styling

The colors should provoke a sense of nostalgia for past Ubuntu themes while being fresh at the same time. Dark chocolate for depth and deep burgandy/maroons are being used for the accent colors to create an autumn feel. Tried and trued beiges will dominate the gtk2 interface with a hint of purple glow to promote buttons and other widgets. In contrast with the glossy look of Human, Peace will be flat or contain a bit of sheen at the most. It may make use of translucency in a simlar manner however.

Functionality

Peace is designed for the Gnome desktop and will utilize common gnome interface engines. These will be chosen based on a combination of speed, functionality and good looks.

Components

Peace will strive to produce unique works of art for the following theme elements

  • Metatheme: /PeaceGtkTheme -Present work is based on LegacyHuman which uses non cairo Clearlooks. Very fast judging by tests scores(see the pdf)

  • Wallpaper: /PeaceWallpaper -top lefthand corner to be darkest, with bottom right having slightly more detail

  • Icons: /PeaceIcons -Screenshot uses Gion 0.0.1 which I'd like to alter slightly.

  • GDM Theme: /PeaceGdmTheme -Subtle use of translucency, autumnal colors, grassy motif.

  • Login Spalsh: /PeaceLoginSplash -Wisps of grass should overlap the rounded corners of a "sunken" box.
