In general, Ubuntu (and Linux) are considered very secure because they require passwords to install software. They also require passwords to login to the computer, at all. If you want to bypass the login password, however, there is a 'hidden' AutoLogin function. You will still need to use your password to install software and updates.

HOW TO ACTIVATE AUTOLOGIN
1. Open a command-line, i.e.,
   click on Applications > Accessories > Terminal
2. Load the Gnome Admin utility, i.e.,
   > sudo gdsetup
   You will need to enter your 'su' password (usually the same as your user password).
3. Change to the 'Security' tab.
4. Enable the checkbox for "Enable Automatic Login"
