One of the reasons that Ubuntu (and Linux) are considered so secure is because they require passwords to install software. They also require passwords even to login to the computer. If you want to bypass the login password, however, there is a 'hidden' Auto Login function. You will still need to use your password to install software and updates.

HOW TO ACTIVATE AUTOLOGIN
1. Load the Gnome Administration utility,
   click on System > Administration > Login Window
2. Change to the 'Security' tab.
3. Enable the checkbox for "Enable Automatic Login"
4. Select your user account from the drop-down list of users.
