Introduction

Focus Groups exist to allow team members to get more involved in the Ubuntu community - visit their pages for more information. Some groups are more focused on the support topics inside the forums, while others aim for involvement through other mediums. If you are needing help or have questions, please contact a group leader and they will provide the best information that will benefit what you're looking for.

Team members. please add yourself to the Forums team (since that is all of us), and to any Focus Group that you would like. Only link to your UF profile from the Forums category - other links should be relevant to the topic or non-existent if not applicable.

A listing of all BT members can be found here on the forums.

Development

Group Description

The Ubuntu Beginners Development Team is a sub-team of the Ubuntu Beginners Team. The main goal of the Development Focus Group is twofold. The first is to create an environment where Beginners Team members can program in a relaxed setting with people they know very well. The second goal is to leverage the talent to create applications that enhance the new user's experience with Ubuntu. The Development team requires a very strict skill set, one of the more difficult focus groups to become a full member in.

Forums

Do not list your name here, it is assumed all BT members and Padawans are part of this group.

IRC

Group Description

The IRC focus group works by aiding ubuntu users in real-time with problems that they may be experiencing. It works in a similar fashion to #ubuntu, except that our channel is less busy with other queries from others. The channel also servers as a place to direct people to who are asking for assistance in #ubuntu-beginners.

Objectives:

  • Ubuntu Assist people with problems that they are experiencing with Ubuntu in a real time environment.

Ubuntu Give advice on switching to Ubuntu from other operating systems.

Security

Group Description

While it is often remarked that Ubuntu comes secure out of the box, many users often express concern over further hardening their systems. Beyond fortifying their OS, there is often concern(s) over an attempt or successful breach of user security. The goal of the Security Focus Group is to assist these users, both new and old, in the attempt at developing and assisting with solutions to security related matters.

Objectives:

  • Ubuntu Help users further enhance the security of their systems

Wiki

Group Description

The Wiki focus group primarily works on keeping the Community Docs (the community-driven wiki) up to date. Members will usually work directly with the DocumentationTeam and are also welcome to work on system documentation that ships with the Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Edubuntu OS's.

Group Objectives

  • Ubuntu Encourage respect and observation of the Ubuntu Code of Conduct at all times.

Ubuntu Keeping the Ubuntu Wiki site concise and understandable for both the new and experienced user.

Ubuntu Keeping the Help.Ubuntu site updated, accurate, and understandable for all those seeking information and help.

Ubuntu Helping out on the Ubuntu Forums, with other Ubuntu/Linux Teams where needed or desired, and the Ubuntu Beginners Team IRC channels.
