== Seeking Help ==
A system that was popular for quite some time across many Ubuntu Teams was to assign each 'student' a mentor. This became hard to maintain and we feel did not serve the 'students' well.

This team is now deprecated. Official announcement about the team's closure can be found here.

We are An oPen team and anyone can join us, learn/teach how to contribute to the community.Help the community, Help yourself feel better Smile :)

Please visit our IRC channel #ubuntu-beginners-team on Freenode to talk/know about Beginners team. Please use #ubuntu-beginners for support and clarify your Ubuntu support related queries.

Process

If you are interested in joining the Ubuntu Beginners Team, we recommend following these steps.

  • Ubuntu Read the introduction and mission statement and familiarize yourself with our goals and values.
    Ubuntu Once ready to join visit our Launchpad page and sign up here
    Ubuntu Subscribe to the mailing list to ensure that you remain up-to-date with what the team is doing. We also use the mailing list to ask and answer questions from members.
    Ubuntu We have what we call focus groups. These are places you can find information about the different areas of the community and the steps taken to get started on your journey to join that teams/

    Ubuntu Come hang out with us in the Internet Relay Chat channel #ubuntu-beginners-team on Freenode, most members are active in the channel and it's a good way to introduce yourself and meet us all quickly. You can also take a look at our irc guide which has a selection of chat clients and reviews our rules for using irc.

If you are not sure about joining the Beginners Team, please come by our IRC channel #ubuntu-beginners-team on freenode we would be more then happy to answer any questions you might have.

Requirements

Your BT Guide will help you complete each of these items.

  • Ubuntu Sign the Ubuntu Code of Conduct.

    Ubuntu Have an account on Launchpad
    Ubuntu Have a wiki page describing yourself and your contributions. For help on creating an Ubuntu wiki page See here. this page will be important not only to introduce yourself to others but also to document your community contributions.

We are adopting a system where all members will be available to help with questions and concerns. If you want to know more about a topic please post the question on our mailing list. This will gain the most exposure across the most members. We also recommend asking in our IRC channel (actually I recomend this frist). If in IRC you do not get an immediate answer dont give up. Sometimes it takes a while for members to log in and see your message. Many members have a persistent IRC connection to catch all questions, answers, and conversations. We are just starting to transition to this new system. Please help us decide what works and what does not. Our main goal is to help members get involved in the community and learn as much as possible about Ubuntu. When I say Ubuntu I mean the OS itself, working on the Ubuntu wiki, Forums, AskUbuntu, Ubuntu development and packaging. Our hope is that new members will gain this new knowledge and continue to pass the knowlede and nenoritng on to upcoming Ubuntu users. We can make a use oppeortunity for imporing the Ubuntu onbarding process.
