The Beginners Team is a community of volunteers dedicated to assisting new users and then helping them share that knowledge through community participation. Booting to a new operating system is often exciting, but problem solving or relearning system administration is often daunting for new users.

To make matters worse, it is human nature to resist change. Thus a user's old operating system, with all its quirks and shortfalls, is set as the de facto gold standard. In essence, people confuse familiarity with ease of use. Unrealistically expecting that a new operating system will function "just like the old one", with little or no learning curve, can result in a frustrating "first date."

Despite this, and barring any special needs for specific hardware or software, most people are able to transition to using Ubuntu with support from the Ubuntu community.

Our Mission Statement
The Ubuntu Forums Beginners Team exists to welcome new Ubuntu users to the community and to enhance their initial experience. The team is a community of volunteers dedicated to assisting new users on the Ubuntu Forums. Many team members also contribute support on IRC, Launchpad, and the Ubuntu Wiki through the team's Focus Groups. We strive to provide diligent, gracious, and reliable guidance to new users. Compassionate assistance to new users not only eases the initial transition to a new operating system, but is the driving force behind the Ubuntu's popularity.

In short, we aim to help beginners:
 1. Evaluate Ubuntu to determine if it will fit their needs.
 1. Obtain Ubuntu and boot the Desktop (live) edition.
 1. Install, configure, maintain, and customize Ubuntu.
 1. Transition to using Ubuntu as a primary operating system.
 1. Become members of the Ubuntu Community.

Please visit our homepage here on the Ubuntu Team Wiki.

This team is now deprecated. Official announcement about the team's closure can be found here.
