| Booting to a new operating system is often exciting, but problem solving or relearning system administration is often daunting for new users. To make matters worse, it is human nature to resist change. Thus a user's old operating system, with all its quirks and shortfalls, is set as the de facto gold standard. In essence, people confuse ''familiarity'' with ''ease of use''. Unrealistically expecting that a new operating system will function "just like the old one", with little or no learning curve, can result in a frustrating "first date."
