Clamam, can you tell more about this event ? In general we can say that it was a good but nut too busy fair, there were people who showed interest but most came back again at every fair and then they have had all the necessary explanations before. Those who have took the time to stop we have helped them to show what Ubuntu is about. Most were interested in a dual-boot system with Windows and Ubuntu, the prepared presentations have proven their service. The 2 netbooks of Koen and Massimiliano respectively. 10.04 and 9.10 attracted much attention because the visitors had an eye for such a small all-rounder with a beauty of an operating system. I also had a laptop which is has 10.04 Beta1, this was very successful because the Ubuntero's on the fair were curious about the latest changes of the operating system. The Bitmappers Computer Club were also there and they had asked Dipro to put both stands together, giving us almost 10 meter of promotion for Ubuntu. The relationship was good and definitely worth repeating. The Bitmappers did promote their releasemeeting (releaseparty) of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on May 16, 2010 in the CC of Genk. http://www.ubuntu-meeting.be/ good to hear that Clamam, I love the fact that you guys are building a realtion with the Bitmappers, certainly that is something to really encourage thx Clamam , other comment ? i am also promoting the releaseparty at the different IT-departements around my workplace i think it's better to promote Ubuntu , it doesn't metter h what organisation is doeing the event indeed certainly, there should not be egos involved in the promotion what about showing one of this ads in the Dipros: http://www.google.be/search?q=ubuntu+ads+youtube&hl=en&client=opera&hs=bUO&rls=en&tbs=vid:1&tbo=u&ei=Gp2zS5HECsqJ4Qax6qm2Ag&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQqwQwAA some nice music and Apple like ads should get people interested, and we could custom them to matchthe be group sorry for the nasty url ;) that's indeed a wonderfull idea didn't even know about these ads >< let your imagination works for the next dipro in ghent on 18/4 ! jup guess there'll be another meeting wwith kenneth for that ;) who is willing to give it a go? I mean, do the add? maybe one in each lang showing off the new stuff The Bitmappers computerclub have a nice Video showing the difference between Ubuntu and Windows, it's funny to. last comment about genk : Clamam , did you saw the next dipro in hasselt on 26/9 : think on time about looking for the team * tunix (~AndChat@188.188.106.235) a rejoint #ubuntu-be is it freely available? what i wouldn't give to mail gmail's 'm' go to the next unread Clamam: is their video freely available? i have to ask them, they are going to show it again at the releasemeeting next item : dipro ghent 18/4 kenneth will coordinate the booth, a few names are already in te wiki the team is not yet complete, additional volunteers will be welcome other comment about ghent dipro ? there are 7 ppl on the wiki shouldn't that be enough? if not enough, add places for volunteers ! * t00r est parti (Read error: Connection reset by peer) also: coordination meeting on 25/01/2010 ? ow looking on the wrong one >< My bad :( * t00r (~t00r@unaffiliated/t00r) a rejoint #ubuntu-be ... 3 ppl on it pvandewyngaerde, you're comming too? mandel ? last year it was the 19th, that 's my B-day that's noted :D mimor, where is it, Ghent? jup ICC mimor, if you need me, I'll go ;) you've been taking pictures there last time ><µ mimor, ok, I'll put my name up for that one Whoooo!!!!! thx ^^ I'll probably go to Ghent too fill in the wiki if you want to be present on 28/03/10 19:30 joris told in the ml that he will be present (also note if you'll only help for a few hours) mimor , please see the mail from joris and add him in the wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Gent_2010-04-18 other comment for dipro ghent ? jean7491, ths, wa looking for that ;) there will be another prep. meeting for the dipro I guess Kenneth can't join us on Wednesdays The date'll be discussed on the ML that would be good it is up to you (team ghent) next item : release parties Lucid Lynx 10.04lts * pvandewyngaerde est parti (Read error: Connection reset by peer) whiii - i've nothing to add to the already announced parties in mechelen on 3/5 by hcc vlaanderen, in genk (cultuurcentrum) on 16/5 by the bitmappers (big event) and in brussels on 9/5 by dewereldmorgen.be (ex-indymedia) * pvandewyngaerde (~id984031@35.63-200-80.adsl-dyn.isp.belgacom.be) a rejoint #ubuntu-be yes, just 1 remark ... You forgot about mine? :§ i wonder why nobody added the rp in genk in the agenda on the website ... mimor, wait k i already add all the dipro fairs, i suppose someone else can add events in the calendar ! same remark for other events like uds, and others ... - ghent : ... mimor started with organization of the release party in whitespace (hackers) mimor, comments ? yes :) nice place they have, if you find it it'll be a long day of RP :) I'll update my website with the how to get there and stuff and put links to it on related pages (such as wiki) - it's a video It'll start at around 13h and I want to start with 'lightning talks' I already had 1 guy with the balls to talk about something * mimor wants to express his thx again to mandel ;) So now, I'm looking for some more people I'd like to do a talk about the mayor changes in Ubuntu 10.04 so that's 2 talks :) but I seriously want some more if someone has an interesting talk about Ubuntu relates stuff (might be technical as there prob. be people with quite a lot of knowledge :) mimor: remember you also need personel for the whole day ☺ I'll be there JanC :D and as there is a meeting in Brussels for dev's. I was wondering if we could possibly ask some of the dev's to do a talk at the RP? mandel, JanC do you know possible people to talk? so yes, let me know well, not Brussels, rather somewhere halfway Hoeilaart & La Hulpe in the middle of nowhere :P There'll be a request for speakers on the mailinglist too oh k the same... it's Belgium... so it's close :P JanC, yes, I looked at that... in Dallas was the same thing.. and lots of text mex food hehe mimor, I'll ask around would be great what about the promotion of the rp in ghent ? There is almost no art-work to be found on the internet of lynx and my friend who made the awesome one for the previous RP has too much work right now :( and I suck in the color world, so if someone has some arty-party-skills... pretty plz :) to be short the new artwork is not available yet mimor, I've got the t-shirt for 10.4 that has a nice lynx, would you like me to scan it and send it? as in logos, the new font, etc. mandel, YES YES YES!!! I think I have the new one... or at least official one :P i'm not speaking about flyers or posters, but where and for which group of people ? school ? clubs, ... mandel: I mean serioeus quality artwork, not scans of t-shirts :P jean7491, it's open to everyone that's interested JanC, ofcourse hehe, but you can scan it and vectorize the image ;) from starters to NASA people :D mandel: it will be distorted... it can work as a placeholder though ok, but if you are not promoting actively the rp, nobody (except the ml) will know it ! but so could the logo image in the wiki JanC, I'll see what I can do with it... it is worth a try also, we still lack the new font :-( other comment for the rp ghent ? wait jean7491 JanC, true.. I've heard kubuntu just got the k hehe it's on uitingent.be i've put it in the database with events in ghent so it'll be on different websites just by that I've put it on the ubuntu-nl forum and i put it on the agenda of the site ubuntu-be ! mandel: the font glyphs are (mostly) ready, but they are still working on kerning & hinting & tweaking & such http://uitingent.be/Evenement_detail.aspx?idEvent=30531 if someone has contact with the bitmappes, it would be nice if they could like 'testdrive' their demo's or talks on the Ghent RP too :) JanC, types have always been hard, but so far it looks great we should have more collaboration between the ReleaseParty teams it's also on releaseparty.eu http://www.releaseparty.eu/show.php5?release-party=lucid-releaseparty-gent-%28be%29 guess that's about it for the promotion till now :s it's pretty much 2 people wanting to talk (so far) and already quite a lot of people shown interest in attending >< still need mayor help on finding talking people mimor, who is the second ;) I am << other comment for the rp ghent ? guess that'll be it for now jean7491 - in antwerp : ... if there is a major change... it'll be on the ML with local ubunteros we plan to organize an install or launch party within the ubuntu-be booth at dipro 9/5 (in the afternoon) a (6m. x 4 m.) booth seems possible, if enough volunteers nd active promotion in area of antwerp main problem will be promotion in antwerp area to attract people in the afternoon : how promote the event with a limited cost ? another difficulty is the dipro entry 7 euros preparation is ongoing comments ? try to get it in the local newspapers / magazines ? indeed, but i've limited info in oostende ! i already asked for yep, local people have to look into that * t00r_ (~t00r@unaffiliated/t00r) a rejoint #ubuntu-be ... to people in a'pen next item :... probably they also have a site like mimor uses in Ghent yes i suppose next item : other events ? these events are not in the agenda on our website Anything to add for these events ? uds ? lgm ? * t00r est parti (Ping timeout: 276 seconds) nothing new AFAIK i have just put the releasemeeting @ genk in the agenda thx Clamam , topic 2 - Promotion item #1 – comment about a public-relation team proposed in the previous meetings ? first work should be to write and disseminate an article about the release of 10.04lts are there volunteers to work on this project ? we should use pastebin and all contribute to it? or some wiki page :D JanC something about press release with bitmappers ? mimor : yes indeed, just who will be in charge or leader ? uhuh k I will be :D for the Release notes that is but I guess there are far more people whom know something about it atm :P mimor : perhaps you can think about a press release for your rp in local newspapers in ghent ? jean7491, that'll draw too many people to it I guess But we can try to get it published in papers so first, we'll need to have a press release 'or something like that' i must go now, bye * Clamam (~claudio@d51A51CAF.access.telenet.be) a quitté #ubuntu-be I've got no experience in the world of publishing or presswriting >< (or whatever you want to call it) press release is not only information about your rp to draw people to it we can mention it in the national press release ^^ I'd rather not just mention the cities, not extensive info ;) jups peopel can find more info if they want main purpose if you'll publish it... you want to inform people about Ubuntu, not about the RP just showing it's popular all over the country ;) jups :) very nice ideas, who will do it ? so I'll start writing something tomorrow, post it on a wiki page (to break the ice) then other people can add their own note we'll see how that goes someone knows if Canonical has something like a Release Note aimed for press-release so I can take it as an example release notes are way too long for PR ☺ mimor think about where in the wiki ? i suggest within par. 6 of the be main page i'll check what's the best place in par 6. 1st item is Ubuntu related press releases, 2d can be ubuntu-be press release if it's a start-shot for a propaganda-team, there should be something as /BelgianTeam/Propaganda/ReleaseNotes or something k :) * bbartek est parti (Quit: Ik ga weg) make sure to include release name or version... or /BelgianTeam/BelgianPress/PressReleases/Year/Event ^^ JanC that quite obvious I guess don't use "propaganda" * tunix est parti (Quit: Bye) next item ? item #2 - comment about the proposal to burn CD's for Ubuntu-be ? as there is a limited interest for this item, it will be forgotten in the next meetings (for now) topic 3 support points map status : mongolito404 ? Mmm you catch me when I was coming back to shut my computer off. nothing to mention, next topic ... anything to mention ? But yeah, nothing to mention. I still have to take the time to release what I've got. ok, thanks to that all I hadn't much feedback but the thing looks solid enough for a first release and migration of the existing data. for the migration, i suppose you thought about a message to all support points asking for confirmation or re-inscription ? Since login requires Launchpad id, I can create account. But I can match existing accounts to at least import the data for those. And provides a list, or even send mail, for account on the old map without a matching account on the website. let me know when i can nuke the vm i mean asking support points if there are always working with, if no answer, they have to be scrapped from the database Yes, for existing support point I can match existing users account on the website and import the data but without commitments. For support points without a matching account, I can mail them. So users with an existing account on the website won't have to re-encode their data. And existing support points will be invited to register on the web-site. And existing support points *without an account* will be invited to register on the website. how long is such inscription or account on launchpad valid ? without action of the owner of the account ? Account on the website are never deactivated. And the current support points module doesn't provide commitments expiration. That's why I don't plan to import commitments for existing accounts. Only points localisation, languages, etc. i mean support points have to confirm regularly their engagement, otherwise we did not solve the problem of not active support points And invite them to renew their commitments by updating their profiles. Yes, that a next step for the module which has not yet been written. ok thanks for the information and the work ! now you can shut down your computer ! :D topic 4 – things living in the mailing list Good night all and thank you for the work too. Looking forward to read today's report. * mongolito404 est parti (Quit: Leaving.) item #1 : new ways/events to promote ubuntu: all suggestions are welcome, ... but there is no suggestion ! comment or suggestion ? other questions not in the agenda ? last topic -... next meetings ... from 7/4 to 30/4 i'm travelling abroad, and likely not able to care for the meetings and reports … someone has to take it over ! The minimum is to add the log in the wiki, better is to write a reports or summaries of the meeting-logs who will care for the IRC meetngs ? nobody ? i suggest next meeting on 7/04/2010 at 21 h., for who is willing to meet ! i will not be there ! I probably can't next week, the ones after that are no problem I think ok, then in the report, i don't mention another irc meeting ! and you announce it when possible we can see if anybody wants to take over... I might be in Bretagne Wed-Sat next week (but not sure yet) jean7491> ok, end of the meeting, have a good night, i'll be back possibly on 28/4 ...
