Hi to all, who is here for the meeting ? me me too me hello massimo21 , Clamam , ILUsion , ... JanC ? hfsdo ? Gh0sty ? and others ? I'm around hello JanC , ... hfsdo ? Gh0sty ? and others ? let's start the meeting ! topic #1. past and future events - September 2010 - update item #1 Dipro Hasselt (26/09) - report report is in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Hasselt_2010-09-26 everything went well Clamam – massimo21 comment ? not really follow the link for the full report https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Hasselt_2010-09-26/ Setup of the booth: The setup of the booth went smoothly and the U-shaped arrangement on this fair was simple to achieve. We had 1.5 hours of work to complete the booth.Hardware used: 2x PC with monitor 1x server monitor 2x netbooks 2x laptops 1x gamepc with monitor and projector 1x 8-port switch 1x wireless access point for wifi "ubuntu-be" for laptops and netbooksThere was much interest in the ordinary PCs and laptops with ubuntu, the netbooks I found had less success. The hype about the netbooks is not a hypy anumore (on this fair anyway). The (web) server actually had little or no success, this PC next time we There was a lot of people between 10.30h and 12.30h in the afternoon it was around 14.00 a bit crowded, the rest it was pretty quiet. So we had some time to resolve a few bugs in the network that we had build.CD donations: There where about 40 original CDs distributed and 20 copy's. The donations were well , after the payment of the booth (20 €) and parking (12 €) we had 54,25€ left.To Do with the donations: Buy Fabric tablecloth Payment for shipping promotional materials on the next fair we have to purchase blank CDs and cd-sleavesDecision: It was again a pleasant and successful fair. Thanks to Massimiliano, Hans and Thijs. i pasted the report in here, but something went a little bit wrong can you comment the use of a pc with games to catch attention of visitors ? while we plaied people was watching with curriosity it was an idea of massimo21 to setup a gamepc we wanted to try something else then only promote ubuntu you can consider it as a kind of promotion ! looks like a great way to get attention idd the people stopt more ad the booth and asked some more questions especcialy younger people i've no experience about games, but it could be good to select a few "spectacular" games we could use in fairs, ... games are a first step towards the use of ubuntu might be useful to make a "game PC" image or metapackage or something we could select some games (Frozen Bubble) i installed allot of games with playdeb we played frets on fire - Alien Arena - Yo Frankie, massimo21 vul dit even aan like quake wars: enemy territory nexuiz maybe combining your info with that from LAN party and maybe others would be a good idea battle of wesknoth astromenace JanC : we could do that the only thing is the GamePC make an Ubuntendo remix :P we had the personal pc from massimo21 yeah, that's an issue for some games you need hardware that's powerful enough maybe we can invest in it in the future fir the eventbox in our boot we also had a few chairs, it seems stupid but you really need them for let the people feel comfortable while testing ubuntu your suggestion for 2 or 3 games easy to use with non powerful pc ? frozen bubble is very addictive of course ;) frets on fire, tux racer, world of padman ok definetly Frozen Bubble massimo21: I'm not sure those work well on all hardware though Osmos is also great but not open source; Tux Racer is also quite old so it should work on old HW remember that some of our demo hardware doesn't even have OpenGL support if they work on a netbook than they arn't that heavy netbooks have small screen we have to try them out on the pc's from the eventbox but you have some point yeah, esting beforehand certainly makes sense ☺ testing in our eventbox are a few pc' that may work World of Goo is also a nice game (but I don't really know how well it works on older / non-OpenGL HW) and for kids there is also GCompris also, decent graphics cards aren't too expensive now, if the built-in one can be replaced ILUsion: isn't that closed source? World of Goo; I thought they were going to open-source that after the Indie Game Bundle? ah, possible some of them were anyway, let's go to the next point on the agenda (hmm apparently World of Goo is not one of the open-sourced ones) thanks for the information, we continue, other comment about hasselt ? and we can add games as topic for a future meeting everyone has to see what for games they can play with the hardware available in the eventbox you are right, to be tested before the fair, of course ! next item #2 Nielse computer dag (26/9) - report we can not tell people what games to play because the evnetboxes are not the same exactly Clamam ! ILUsion your comment about niel ? i've no info from nero Niel was really nice; we also made a little use of games and movies Nero set up Big Buck Bunny on his tv screen to loop, which got a bit of attention Hugo set up some demos on his netbook with external screen: some video editing, GCompris, ... which also worked wonders and I used Frozen Bubble to get some attention I think we mostly spent our time convincing people of all the benefits and helping with some problems they had with their Ubuntu setups (drivers, DVD playback, ...) unfortunately I cannot compare to previous years, and no information about the number of discs distributed. My personal view was that a lot of people were asking how much the computers cost (but that might be explained by the second hand fair that was going on) it is indeed a classic question in the dipro computer fairs ! what about the contact with club monitor, which has a section linux/ubuntu ? I had little contact with the organization of Club Monitor; but some of their members were happy to support us in convincing others to give Ubuntu a try (and also some explaining of the features, etc) ok, thanks for your help, it was your first experience ! no problem and next time, as expereinced ubuntero, you will explain to others how to do in such an event ! again thanks next item #3 Dipro Kortrijk (10/10) for now, only 2 volunteers from ostend en brugge, and nobody from kortrijk area ! as optimistic, i hope more volunteers, ... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Kortrijk_2010-10-10 i suppose no comment ? next item #4 Dipro Brugge (17/10) volunteers are still welcome for a few hours ! https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Brugge_2010-10-17 should talk about games every week to get people to pay attention we can add anitem Promotion - the use of games in the agenda of the meeting ! just ask for it ! ... an item ... next event, for information : 21-22/10 free software + computers demo days in Ghent Zwijnaarde, organized by Linux-Service other comment for events ? can I add another thing to the report for Niel? I think we had too many netbooks (4 in total) and too little big computers/laptops ILUsion: if the report is on the wiki, please edit it ☺ *too few ILUsion : can yoou summarize what was said to write the report or to send it to nero for coordination ? I'll fill in a partial report in the wiki and ask nero to add whatever is missing ok, thanks ! other comment about events, for example, any idea about (release) parties for 10.10 ? if no comment, next topic ... can't we follow the lead of Vancouver? ILUsion : Vancouver? i.e. a real party (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i22efbYLj70 ) that's a PARTYYYY why not ? (release) parties can be fun, just who will organize it (not necessary large scale), but as i understood, just fun to be together that is indeed the question but for that, you need local initiative as people don't like to move just for a few hours and a drink more (if any?) at the next meeting topic # 2. Promotion 10/10 will be the kortrijk dipro fair, maybe we can have a drink around there after the fair? ☺ idd, i can have a drink with wamukota during of after the dipro ! first item Adding links to the website I will maybe come too, just want to wait for people from near Kortrijk to put their name on the wiki ;-) ok, then perhaps a drink with 3 ! wait and see ! first item Adding links to the website we already discussed the topic, see draft in the wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/Website/Commercial_links … the email contact-address for this matter (contact@ubuntu-be.org) is ready, i think we will start (this week, i hope) with an announcement in the mailing list and looking for interested companies/organizations through personal contacts JanC comment ? JanC no comment ? second item, t-shirts for Ubuntu-be well, the address should work, so please do... ok result doodle poll for a preselection: 14 votes: 7x v2-be; 6x v4-be; 7x v6-be see the designs in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/PromotionMaterial/ProposalsT-shirts ... but, as warddr (leading the project is not available today … i suggest a new meeting lead by warddr to compare the price estimations of the 3 preselected designs , and – to take final decision or organize a new poll via doodle? ok other comment ? what about the prise for te sleeve no idea, warddr should have the information then we just qait wait ok item 3 ubuntu and facebook it is started the ubuntu-be facebook page is now working with an animation team administrating the page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=87950312093 but is not a page but a group so everyone can just post on it i learn every day something ! volunteers to work in our facebook team can apply to through irc or mailing list and suggestions/proposition to improve our facebook image are welcome or they just can post whenever they feel like i already changed the image and thanks to the facebook team for the work ! but it still can be better other comment ? no item 4. ubuntu and education as we already discuss, we need an “education-team” to help the promotion of ubuntu in schools and everywhere (content and how to?). to clarify the idea, suggested education-team should be a discussion group which could help with advice(s) action teams and other people on the field. but we need a volunteer to start with and lead the project suggestion ? I'm willing to work on content for the education-team but I do not want to be team lead ok, i took note of your proposal, same for bram (blankenberghe) we continue with topic # 3. Update Wiki item #1 I found a wiki page about linux/ubuntu courses and updated the page with my information: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/Education/NL/Courses please feel free to contribute to the update of the page next : item #2 structure of the wiki I found a lot of pages like stand-alone because not linked with the home page of the belgian team i propose to review the page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam about education, adding Belgian schools that use Ubuntu to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Education/UbuntuSchools might be a good task to start with too jean7491: maybe some of those pages are outdated too? the standalone ones I mean? but sometimes interessant, for example 2008kickoff pages ... and others and first step to link all (non outdated) wiki pages to the home page through several levels – the 1st level can be limited to 10 topics 1. Mission - 2. Who - 3. Contact- 4. Meetings - 5. Activities - 6. Education and documentation - 7. Public Relations- 8. Material - 9. Support - 10. To Do and the rest will follow in other levels likely we need a specific meeting on this topic and a good preparation of course not everybody is interested in this topic (but i learned a lot by surfing in our wiki) other comment on this topic update of the wiki ? ther is a lot of work on ia1a2a3a4a5t on it idd * bbartek est parti (Quit: Ik ga weg) but not for today ! topic# 4. Support points map status map has been replaced by a list of support points which renewed their commitments mongolito404 is working further on this issue, i've no other information on this topic next topic # 5. Things living in the mailing list and others questions ? Belgian team monthly report : we still need someone taking the lead for monthly reporting aim is to inform ubuntu community about our activity JanC for comment ? hm, yeah, I should make the report this week I suppose perhaps just create the page "current", for which day of the month ? i've to check again how we should work yeah, I know there is a page on the wiki on how to do it ☺ other question not in the agenda ? if no other question, last topic, next irc meeting ? proposed on wednesday 06/10 or thursday 07/10 at 21 h. ? your choice ? both are okay for me, maybe also ask warddr or whoever else we want to be there? both are ok for me too both ok ILUsion ? as warddr already told he is ot available wednesday, let's try thursday 07/10, hoping he will jointhursday 07/10 at 21 h. ok good night end of meeting - thanks to all for your participation, and have a good night ! good night * clamam (~claudio@d54C1F823.access.telenet.be) a quitté #ubuntu-be * massimo21 (~massimo21@212.87.112.120) a quitté #ubuntu-be sorry; was a bit distracted. Both dates are fine for me it's thursday 07/10, good night ! good night!
