<massimo21> i
<jean7491> hello JanC , massimo21 <massimo21> i
<jean7491> hello JanC , massimo21
<clamam> hello
<jean7491> hello Clamam
* sakhi__ (~sakhi@41.5.62.194) a rejoint #ubuntu-be
<jean7491> anyone else for the meeting ?
<sakhi__> meeting today?
<jean7491> indeed, weekly meeting ubuntu-be
<sakhi__> jean7491: agenda?
<sakhi__> ahh nice
<jean7491> agenda : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/IrcMeetings
<jean7491> sakhi_ what's your location ?
<jean7491> i'm in ostend
<JanC> he's in South Africa I think ;)
<sakhi__> I want to start getting my hands involved in ubuntu-be I'm based in South Africa and my recent visit to Ghent made me interested.
<sakhi__> JanC: yep you right
<jean7491> thanks, you are welcome !
<jean7491> i propose we start with topic about events
<sakhi__> thank you jean7491
<jean7491> topic #1. past and future events - november - december – update dipro computer fairs
* padv est parti (Remote host closed the connection)
<jean7491> item #1 fair in ghent, 14/11/2010 – report …
<jean7491> kenneth told me everything went smooth, with interessant contacts with people about linux courses in lokeren and ghent, ...
<jean7491> JanC something to add ?
<JanC> yeah, the fair was good, not very much gifts though
<jean7491> did kenneth spoke about the next fair in january ?
<JanC> yeah
<JanC> he will organise it again
<jean7491> any idea how to get more volunteers to organize ?
<jean7491> in general, for the coming activities, we need additional volunteers ...
<JanC> well, Mike was there too, plus Kenneth, his friend & me, so it was okay
<sakhi__> JanC: any ideas what the next fair will be about? does Kenneth make the focus of the fairs on training or can he also create an awareness of Open Source?
<JanC> sakhi__: these are computer sales fairs
<JanC> where we mostly promote Ubuntu to "normal" users (not companies, schools, etc.)
<sakhi__> nice
<JanC> most stands on those fairs are people selling cheap or second hand hardware
<jean7491> organizator of the fair is dipro http://www.dipro.be/benl/micro_mega_market
<JanC> well, and all sorts of gadgets, inkjet refills, etc.
<sakhi__> I know there are radio stations that side which could be be very helpful in spreading the word and getting more volunteers, is too costly to get airtime?
<sakhi__> I once used radio to promote Software Freedom Day in Cape Town.
<JanC> there is one in Brussels that has a FLOSS program 1h/week (without anybody to have to pay for it)
<sakhi__> not sure if I'm in the same frame of thinking when it comes to your side. I also wish the fairs could get POS gadgets just to demostrate the usefulness of Open Source.
<sakhi__> JanC: that is good.
<JanC> maybe a university-sponsored radio like URGent would do that to, if anybody would have the time & and a plan to do that ;)
<massimo21> what is POS gadget?
<JanC> "Point Of Sale" I assume
<JanC> ?
<sakhi__> JanC: yes, I got carried away there.
<sakhi__> Point Of Sale... running OpenBravo perhaps.
<JanC> most vendors at the fairs prefer cash payments ;)
<JanC> well, most don't support anything else
<jean7491> idea of using local radio stations : we should investigate locally the possibilities ... for example through the mailing list
<jean7491> but more efficient through personal contacts
<jean7491> a suggestion to our nl press contact ?
<JanC> running our own radio program would require a lot of work (1 hour of radio means several of hours of preparation, editing, etc.)
<JanC> but if anybody wants to do it...
<jean7491> i though only a report or interview, ... or contact with
<JanC> apparently Thomas from Dipro sent the local TV to our booth last Sunday, but they didn't show up... :-(
<jean7491> perhaps next time ?!
<jean7491> next event ?
<jean7491> item #2 dipro computer fair genk, 21/11/2010, coordinator: claudio
<jean7491> Clamam ?
<clamam> everything is ready
<clamam> only people to manage our booth
<sakhi__> I'm sure it is possible to start with creating an awareness and talking about Ubuntu/Open Source and try to get a feel of how many people out there are aware or knowledgeble about Ubuntu and later move on to one topic per session. Example brief conversation about Apache, SSL, MySQL and so on even if its for 15-30 mins.
<clamam> but we have asked a smaller booth
<JanC> clamam: you got the CDs for Genk & Hasselt today?
<sakhi__> what does eveyone think?
<clamam> yes i have them
<clamam> many thanks JanC
<JanC> smaller than what?
<massimo21> than the times before
<JanC> less than 4m ?
<clamam> the last time we had 4 tables
<clamam> now 3
<jean7491> no, we ask 4 m. lenght and we receive more, at least in hasselt and genk
<JanC> normally we ask only 2 tables = 4m or so?
<jean7491> idd
<JanC> and the tables are actually 3m I think, so we get 6m ;)
<clamam> it's something like that
<jean7491> but with a setup in "u" form, we need 'm length = 2 tables + a 3d table
<clamam> the last time in Hasselt we had just enough room for all the hardware
<jean7491> 4m. length
<JanC> well, it depends on the type of tables etc.
<clamam> and now we will do a U setup with 3 tables en less hardware
<jean7491> ok
<JanC> clamam: so you requested 3 tables?
<jean7491> i requested a lenght of 4 m. and a total of 3 tables
<clamam> Yes, Jean7491 did the request
<JanC> problem is that the tables are not the same size everywhere, so I have no idea what that means in Genk
<jean7491> idd, i asked the 4 m length + an additional table
<clamam> we will see
<jean7491> anything else about genk ?
<clamam> Massimo21 ?
<massimo21> yes
<massimo21> i was on the phone
<jean7491> nothing else ? next event ...
<massimo21> nothing to add
<jean7491> item #3 dipro computer fair antwerpen, 28/11/2010, coordinator: bram , team is almost ok, just final preparation
<jean7491> preparation is going on, i've no further information, just the remark about local radios for jan b.
<jean7491> next event ...
<jean7491> item #4 dipro computer fair mechelen, 12/12/2010, coordinator: nero, ...
<JanC> jean7491: does A'pen need CDs?
<JanC> and Mechelen?
<jean7491> no idea
<jean7491> but i'll mail to bram and nero later
<JanC> nero can maybe pick them up at my place for Mechelen
<JanC> but not sure about A'pen
<jean7491> no idea, i will ask for info
<jean7491> for mechelen, we need (of course) volunteers !
<jean7491> next event is in 2011 ...
<jean7491> item #5 dipro computer fair leuven 16/01/2011 : we will need a new local team to organize the booth, first time since mid 2008!?
<jean7491> again a request for the mailing list !
<jean7491> comment about the events ?
<JanC> nope, let's go on to the next item ;)
<jean7491> next topic ...
<jean7491> next topic # 2. Promotion
<jean7491> item #1 t-shirts for Ubuntu-be : as warddr (leading the project) is not available today, we wait for his initiative on this issue
<jean7491> item #2. ubuntu and education
<jean7491> on 09/11 in ghent, jan b. presented ubuntu to students at ugent ...
<jean7491> see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/Education/UGhent_Open_Source-2010
<jean7491> he was positive and will go on
<jean7491> item #3. french press contact, nicolas p. has resigned for personal reason (he sent me a mail), we need another point of contact with the french-speaking press! Looking for volunteers !?
<jean7491> again a request for the mailing list !
<jean7491> comment ?
<jean7491> next ... topic # 3. Update Wiki : nothing from me - suggestion or comment ?
<massimo21> not now
<JanC> I have been noteing down some wiki/website stuff that needs updating, but haven't gone over it systematically yet
<jean7491> ok, for later ...
<jean7491> next ... topic# 4. Support points map status
<jean7491> no new information from mongolito404 about a map …
<massimo21> i miss the old map
<jean7491> a few figures ...
<jean7491> 569 old support points did not register on the web-site to renew commitment, despite a reminder mail.
<sakhi__> are you using open street maps?
<massimo21> no
<jean7491> 58 old support points were registered on the web-site but did not renew their commitment as support points, despite a reminder mail … therefore they were withdrawn from the list ...
<massimo21> it is not an actually map
<jean7491> Summary: actually, there are approximately 130 updated points of support listed on the web-site ...
<JanC> massimo21: a map is being worked on
<massimo21> :-)
<jean7491> not yet on map, mongolito404 is working on
<massimo21> i'l be patient
* woutervddn (~wouter@d54C1A7ED.access.telenet.be) a rejoint #ubuntu-be
<jean7491> to increase the number of support points, – we should look for more support points by comparing lthe ist of support points and people we know working with ubuntu and/or active in ubuntu-be
<JanC> maybe also promote it on ubuntu-nl forum, etc.
<woutervddn> hey guys, I'm part of the ubuntu-artwork group and I live in belgium (hasselt), so I was wondering if you could use some extra help?
<clamam> YESSSSSS
<massimo21> maybe you can come to the fair in Genk
<woutervddn> when is it?

<woutervddn> ok..
<jean7491> the topic support points was the tast of the agenda, are there other questions ?
<woutervddn> must say I thought the belgian loco team was dead..
<massimo21> yes
<massimo21> get alot of spam trough cantact@ubuntu-be.org
<woutervddn> hmm.. :s that's not good..
<JanC> woutervddn: heh, we got re-approved quite easily, so we can't be dead ;)
* sakhi__ wishes I could be more helpful. Belgian loco team is alive.
<woutervddn> :p lol I just meant the site looks like its unmaintained..
<clamam> the people here are LOCO enough to keep ubuntu-be going
<JanC> woutervddn: one problem with teh ubuntu-be site is that it's in 4 languages, so too many updates is somewhat complicated ;)
<clamam> we are one loco family looking for more members
<massimo21> is it normal about the spam???
<JanC> and actually, it really needs updating currently
<JanC> massimo21: there is no spamfilter on the server, but the mailserver of your ISP shoul have one?
<woutervddn> nice to hear you won't give up on the loco
<massimo21> using gmail
<woutervddn> and belgian languages are difficult to combine in 1 site!
<JanC> massimo21: ah, known bug in gmail :P
<JanC> woutervddn: we never thought about giving up on the loco ;)
<JanC> woutervddn: are yo usubscribed to the list?

<JanC> nice
<woutervddn> done..
<JanC> as explained on the site ubuntu-be is mostly about local organisation of events
<woutervddn> uhu..
<woutervddn> does the loco team have a sort of mission statement?
<jean7491> btw, the wiki page for the re-approval 2012 is already open (but not yet filled!)
<JanC> many of us are also involved in other locoteams (depending on our native language) for helping with support, etc.
<massimo21> we also have a facebook group
