<jean7491> in general, for the coming activities, we need additional volunteers ...
<jean7491> volunteers are always welcome !!! see the list of events in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs
<jean7491> item #1 fair in genk, 21/11/2010 – report …
<massimo21> go clamam
<jean7491> claudio posted a report in the mailing list and in the wiki
<clamam> ok
<jean7491> your comment Clamam ?
<clamam> the report is on the wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Genk_2010-11-21
<clamam> with pictures
<massimo21> i wanted to tell that for the ubuntu-be banner i used a plotter @work
<jean7491> the booth looks very good with improved presentation, well done
<massimo21> i don't know if i can ask to print more
<clamam> we have desided to spent a little bit of the donations to improve our booth
<massimo21> people was more inpressed by the look
<clamam> we have to promote a great OS
<clamam> so the booth must look good and proffesional
<jean7491> massimo21 , if possible a few addditional copies should be usefull for other teams, (4-5?) but if possible for you at work
<massimo21> i can tell in a few weeks
<massimo21> i am @ home now
<massimo21> incident @ work
<jean7491> ok, let it me know
<massimo21> ok
<massimo21> will mail you
<jean7491> not serious incident, we hope ! , other comment about dipro genk ?
<massimo21> nothing serious thanks
<clamam> it was a great fair
<clamam> lots af interesting people
<massimo21> we also recieved compliments
<sakhi_> from?
<massimo21> people
<clamam> the people where also very generous with the donations
<massimo21> more than the other times
<JanC> nice
<jean7491> did you already spoke with other people/volunteers about the next one ?
<massimo21> ?
<clamam> only with Hans and Massimo21 and the new guy from last IRC
<massimo21> =woutervdn
<jean7491> i mean about dipro hasselt 23/01/2011
<sakhi_> that is very good, I thought there was a specific person or group of people with more influence you received compliments from. This would do more good, not that the people who gave compliments do not have influence. I'm just thinking in a business perspective which in turn can bring more interest from the community and more awareness about the good we do.
* sakhi_ hopes he's on the right track.
<massimo21> i think clamam meant also about hasselt
<clamam> i also mean the fair in hasselt
<jean7491> ok
* streep (~streep@188.188.238.244) a rejoint #ubuntu-be
<massimo21> hi streep
<clamam> normally we are going to be with 4 volunters @ the fair in Hasselt
<clamam> we will look for more
<clamam> i know a few people that come to see the boorh evrey fair and i will talk to them about helping us.
<jean7491> imho it is usefull to contact personally a lot of people, 1st to get and hold contact with, and later for active cooperation
<jean7491> ... in a long term perspective
<jean7491> other comment ... or next item ..
<massimo21> no comment
<woutervddn> sorry was afk
<clamam> no comment
<jean7491> hello woutervddn
<woutervddn> hi..

<jean7491> i will call through the mailing list, and nero will look for volunteers
<jean7491> looking to 2011 ... item #4 dipro computer fair leuven 16/01/2011, . . .
<jean7491> we will need a new local team to organize the booth, ...
<jean7491> does ubuntu-be already organize anything in leuven in the past ?
<jean7491> i've no idea who is active in this area !
<jean7491> JanC any idea about leuven area ?
<JanC> maybe Mark VdB has ideas
<jean7491> ok, i will ask for via mail
<JanC> I doubt he will have much time himself though (as FOSDEM is also close then)
<JanC> Sh3r1ff_: you are from Leuven?
<woutervddn> I would say yes if you look at his email.. *-)
<woutervddn> (or he at least works there..)
<JanC> email? his hostname you mean?
<woutervddn> yes sry..
<JanC> seems like he's not around, so let's move on for now
<clamam> there are 18 people connected, is there nobody from leuven?
<woutervddn> I will go to the fair in leuven.
<woutervddn> but it's my first one so..
<jean7491> thanks woutervddn , you will not be alone, we will find other people !
<massimo21> ther is always a first time
<woutervddn> hopefully ;-)
<jean7491> don't worry !
<jean7491> if no other comment about events, next ... topic promotion
<clamam> when is the fair in leuven
<JanC> we always want a person with some experience there too anyway
<clamam> it's not on the wiki
<JanC> 16/01/2011
<clamam> ok, i looked in 2010
<jean7491> and is in the wiki !
<woutervddn> (it's kind of weard that 2011 stand above 2010 in the wiki..)
<woutervddn> *weird
<jean7491> within 3 week, fairs 2010 go to the past fairs page
<jean7491> as archive
<jean7491> next topic # 2. Promotion ...
<jean7491> item #1 t-shirts for Ubuntu-be : as warddr (leading the project) is not available today (no mail from his side), we wait for his initiative on this issue
<massimo21> it look like this prject is dead
<JanC> well, we need to know if ward still plans to work on it
<JanC> otherwise somebody else can maybe take it over...
<jimbauwens> You can order on Aldi online custom t-shirts for 10 euros, maybe interesting?
<woutervddn> was he going to have them print, or print them himself?
<massimo21> maybe after the hollydays
<jean7491> i don't know his intention
<JanC> jimbauwens: we wanted non-sweatshop t-shirts ;)
<jimbauwens> ok
<JanC> and wasn't much different price where he asked
<JanC> I think even cheaper!
<jimbauwens> :)
<JanC> woutervddn: have them printed
<woutervddn> if he's not doing it we might ask him where he found them at that price..
<woutervddn> they aren't that cheap normally
<JanC> you can easily get t-shirts printed for 4-5 € / t-shirt if you order enough
<woutervddn> are there ideas about the number of t-shirts?
* erveh (54c6d735@gateway/web/freenode/ip.84.198.215.53) a rejoint #ubuntu-be
<JanC> that was one of the things still to decide
<jean7491> sofar i remember it was suggested to start with 100 t-shirts
<woutervddn> wow..
<jean7491> but th whole project was not yet ready, ward was working on, (i hape)
<jean7491> (ihope)
<jean7491> (i'm still hoping!)
<massimo21> we all
<jean7491> no other comment for today about t-shirts ?
<JanC> I have been thinking, we could also ask ospublish if they want to make a design for us...
<jean7491> ospublish ?
<woutervddn> it would be nice to have them before leuven, kind of a newyear boost..
<JanC> ospublish is an award wining graphics design agency in Brussels that uses only open source (including Ubuntu)
<JanC> http://ospublish.constantvzw.org/
* erveh est parti (Quit: Page closed)
<woutervddn> is there a summary of the decisions made for the tshirt project?
<JanC> woutervddn: there are bits and pieces in several IRC reports
<jean7491> irc meetings in august and september
<woutervddn> ok, thx
<jean7491> irc meetings reports, of course
<jean7491> next ... item #2. ubuntu and education
<jean7491> before that, about ospublish: JanC , do you have contacts ? likely design=cost
* streep est parti (Quit: streep)
<JanC> I have contacts, but I'd rather first know what ward is planning to do (or not to do...)
<jean7491> ok, i propose i'll write him a mail for clarification
<jean7491> back to next item #2. ubuntu and education
<jean7491> no new information from jan b. (a'pen), nor from my side
<jean7491> to end the topic promotion, i remember the item #3: we need a new french press contact, as the current (nicolas) has resigned for personal reason
<jean7491> other general comment about promotion ?
<JanC> nope
<jean7491> next topic # 3. Update Wiki : suggestion or comment from my side, ... other suggestion
<massimo21> i have comment about contact@ubuntu-be
<jean7491> ?
<jean7491> massimo21 your comment ?
<massimo21> why is there so much spam?
<massimo21> i forgot
<massimo21> i alreay asked
<massimo21> sorry
<jean7491> ok
<jimbauwens> The new website (and also ubuntu.com) is unusable slow in the epiphany browser and the midori browser.
<JanC> jimbauwens: those are webkit/gtk browsers, but I'm not sure why they would be slow...
<jimbauwens> This is because of a webkit bug (and is not being fixed). I think it has something to do with drop shadows.
<JanC> well, it's not really badly slow here
<woutervddn> it's odd they don't fix it as ubuntu.com is having the same problem...
<JanC> when using Midori on 10.10
<jimbauwens> I use epiphany
<jimbauwens> on 10.10
<jimbauwens> omgubuntu.co.uk has the same problem
<JanC> I think the browser team already has more than enough work with Firefox, Chromium, etc.
<jimbauwens> Yeah, I don't think that many people use epiphany
<JanC> I have no issue in Epiphany either
<jimbauwens> Weird
<JanC> 64-bit or 32-bit?
<jimbauwens> 32 bit
<jimbauwens> On a netbook and on a desktop
<JanC> ah, I'm on 64-bit, maybe that's the difference
<JanC> anyway, let's get back to the meeting first ;)
<jimbauwens> ok :)
<clamam> next item??
<jean7491> topic# 4. Support points map status ...
<jean7491> no new information, +/- 130 to 140 support points
* jimbauwens2 (~yaaic@d51538A12.access.telenet.be) a rejoint #ubuntu-be
* jimbauwens est parti (Quit: Leaving)
* jimbauwens2 s'appelle maintenant jimbauwens
<jean7491> next topic # 5. Things living in the mailing list and others questions ? no input from me
<woutervddn> about the support points..
<jean7491> yes ?
<woutervddn> what if I would make add a support point, and someone from a neighbour village types his zip-code, will he find me?
<massimo21> nope
<woutervddn> wouldn't there be a way to make this happen..
<massimo21> but in the feature it will be a real map
<woutervddn> ow.. ok
<clamam> Can we make a custom iso for the fairs with java, flash, video codec,... preinstalled and ubuntu-be background?
<JanC> not on a CD
<massimo21> why not on cd?
<clamam> dvd?
<clamam> to big
<JanC> and distributing flash on the CD requires a written permission from Adobe
<clamam> or leave some thing out
<clamam> that's what i thought
<clamam> java and the rest also??
<JanC> open source java can't be a problem
<massimo21> ok but a customized iso with dutch language wil not be a problem then?
<woutervddn> does java require permission from sun?
<massimo21> ubuntu uses open jdk
<clamam> not openjdk i think
<JanC> I don't think sun java needs permission
<JanC> although, not sure
<woutervddn> this might sound silly but can't we just ask adobe and sun and tell them it's only a limited amount just for the fairs?
<woutervddn> if they know the number of cd's why would they make a problem out of it?
<JanC> in any case, OpenJDK often works better
<clamam> is this a thing that we can workout or let it like it is
<jimbauwens> you could create some dummy packed that say they are a older version from flash/java, and when a user would update, it would install the full version.
<JanC> jimbauwens: hehe, good idea :P
<clamam> JanC, Jean7491?? what do you thin about it for the fairs?
<JanC> jimbauwens: I'll make a note of that ☺
<jimbauwens> then it would also go on a cd
<woutervddn> true.
* massimo21 est parti (Quit: massimo21)
<woutervddn> so the only thing we'd really add is an ubuntu-be wallpaper?
* massimo21 (~massimo21@91.176.216.164) a rejoint #ubuntu-be
<massimo21> i am back
<JanC> we can add full translations, etc.
<jean7491> imho, for the moment, we have to work with the list of postal code, although more explanation on the web-page could help, but everyone can help mongolito404 with the support map issue
<clamam> Yes that is something and maybe a help file on the desktop
<JanC> e.g. currently the live-CD has no complete translations for OOo I think
<woutervddn> yeah, I think that's true.. so that would be really handy addition.
<clamam> JanC: no but we can add them on the iso
<massimo21> a fully translated ubuntu live cd
<JanC> actually, there is a way to get more data on an .iso, but it's not well-tested yet
<massimo21> on a dvd but the costs will be greater then
<JanC> I made a custom .iso for the first release party in Herk-de-Stad BTW
<massimo21> how did that go
<jimbauwens> remastersys?
<clamam> Yes how was it
<massimo21> remastersys is an easy way to do it
<JanC> actually, I did it mostly manually, as that worked best ;)
<jimbauwens> :o
<JanC> unpack, chroot, change, clean up, make .iso again
<woutervddn> xD
<jimbauwens> now, that really custom
<JanC> but that was 4 years ago...
<woutervddn> janC, how much work was it
<JanC> once I knew how to do it: not that much
<massimo21> so would it be a good idea to do it again for fairs?
<clamam> remastersys is easy, clean install, add apps in synaptic, remove unwanted and make iso with remasterssys
<woutervddn> work/benefits?
<JanC> the release somewhere late in the evening on Thursday, and it had to be uploaded to my server (over a slow upload link) in time so that Bart could download it before driving to Germany to the CDmanufacturing plant :P
<JanC> driving to Germany on Friday morning
<JanC> so, it was all night work (half of that babysitting the upload in case it would be interrupted etc. :P
<woutervddn> I think it would give a signature to ubuntu-be, and it would be a very nice way to get focus to the locoteam..
<JanC> I don't think remastersys existed back then
<massimo21> specially for the translation
<woutervddn> true, but don't underestimate the power of a wallpaper..
<jimbauwens> lol
<JanC> does remastersys allow changing the default language, keyboard, etc.?
<massimo21> not everyone understands english to try out the live iso
<massimo21> yes
<woutervddn> seeing ubuntu-be the first times you boot would make new ones feel like they have some stick behind the door when encountering problems..
<massimo21> with remastersys is wath you see is wath you get
<woutervddn> (homepage: http://ubuntu-be.org)
<jimbauwens> maybe Google+ubuntu-be in tabs
<massimo21> yes
<jean7491> to close the current meeting, i propose next irc meeting next week, on thursday 02/11/2010 at 21 h.
<jimbauwens> or duckduckgo.org
<jimbauwens> :)
<woutervddn> then I'd rather make a ubuntu-be version of the normal ubuntu homepage..
<woutervddn> 2/12 you mean?
<clamam> ok for next meeting
<massimo21> ok
<jimbauwens> ok
<massimo21> can we discus this topic next week to then?
* JanC a changé le sujet en : http://ubuntu-be.org | get supp http://ubuntu-be.org | get support at #ubuntu-nl, #ubuntu-fr, #ubuntu-de, #ubuntu | IRC meeting on Thursday 02/12/2010 at 21h, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/IrcMeetings for agenda and more information
<JanC> massimo21: put it on the agenda ☺
<clamam> so now we can think about the custom iso, untill next week and i like the inputs about it
<massimo21> ;-)
<jean7491> end of meeting - thanks to all for your participation, continue your contacts and have a good night !

<woutervddn> I'd love to see a custom one as I know how hard the first steps can be! xD
<clamam> these are the first steps
<woutervddn> :p I meant the first staps on linux for new users :p
<jimbauwens> nice talking to you people :)
<clamam> ah, ok
<jimbauwens> goodnight
<massimo21> if we make a custom ubuntu it has to be as similar to the original ubuntu as possible
<woutervddn> goodnight
* sakhi_ might only joing the meeting after the 20th December. I will be going to Ethiopia to give training.
<sakhi_> goodnight jimbauwens
<woutervddn> only accents should change..
<JanC> sakhi_: no internet in Ethiopia?
<woutervddn> else it wouldn't be a ubuntu distro anymore..
<clamam> sakhi: have a safe trip
<massimo21> i woud change wallpaper firefox tabs and language
<massimo21> idd
<sakhi_> JanC: not sure if I will have it in the hotel.
<clamam> massimo21: add a helpfile on the desktop
<jimbauwens> and the bootsplash, theme, filemanager
<massimo21> yes
<jimbauwens> lol
<massimo21> off course an helpfile
<sakhi_> last time I only had it at their University.
<woutervddn> lol @ sakhi
<JanC> I guess differences are large between countries in Africa about good internet availability
<jimbauwens> bye
<clamam> good night
* jimbauwens est parti (Quit: Yaaic - Yet another Android IRC client - http://www.yaaic.org)
<massimo21> bye bye
<sakhi_> South Africa is ok you can get it anywhere as long as you pay like everyone else.
<woutervddn> I'm just wondering how hard it would be to get that dummy package working..
<massimo21> i have no idea
<sakhi_> translating an iso should be interesting, I take it you will be customising it too.
<JanC> woutervddn: the dummy package would be easy (actually, I plan on making something like it and put it in my PPA)
<sakhi_> I remember we did it sometime in 2006 and packaged it with educational applicaitons and the whole of Wikipedia on it.
<woutervddn> translating = easy, dummy appears to be easy, wallpaper = easy, maybe custum homepage = easy..
<JanC> sakhi_: that was a DVD then, I assume
