Welcome to the Ubuntu California wiki!
Ubuntu California is a group of volunteers who advocate and promote Ubuntu and Free Software in California. We attend and plan events statewide, contact and work with LUGs and other local groups, and act as the public face of the Ubuntu community in California. The group is open to everybody in the state with an interest in spreading and discussing Ubuntu.

Current Ubuntu Release - 10.10 Maverick Meerkat
Maverick Meerkat 10.10 was announced at 10:10:10 on Oct 10, 2010. Release notes contain important information and should be read before upgrading or installing.
When downloading 10.10, please use the *.torrent files and mirrors whenever possible. Using these usually increases your download speed.
The Canonical press releases for the desktop & server versions have helpful 10.10 overviews. For higher level descriptions, the Canonical Tours of desktop, netbook & server new features and the release notes might be interesting.
This release date is in part a tribute to The Hitchhiker's Guide as 101010 in binary is 42, the answer to life, the universe and everything as described in Mark Shuttleworth's Maverick Keynote video.

The Ubuntu Developer Summit for Maverick Meerkat 10.10 was held Monday, 10 May - Friday 14 May 2010, in Brussels, Belgium. A Technical Overview and Blueprints are being used as guides for producing this release.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx was announced as Ubuntu's stable release April 29th, 2010. Release notes contain important information and should be read before should be read before upgrading or installing.
