Welcome to the Ubuntu California wiki!

Ubuntu California is a group of volunteers who advocate and promote Ubuntu and Free Software in California. We attend and plan events statewide, contact and work with LUGs and other local groups, and act as the public face of the Ubuntu community in California. The group is open to everybody in the state with an interest in spreading and discussing Ubuntu.

• We hold meetings every other Sunday evening in the #ubuntu-california channel on Freenode IRC. Our IRC Meetings page has more information and dates. All interested people are welcome to join us!

Goals

• Meet with and join up with local LUGs (Linux User Groups), like this one in Silicon Valley, or these around Los Angeles.

• Have a presence at conferences and events such as Southern California Linux Expo.

Current Ubuntu Release - 11.04 Natty Narwhal

• Natty Narwhal 11.04 was announced April 28. Release notes contain important information and should be read before upgrading or installing.

• When downloading 11.04, please use the *.torrent files and mirrors whenever possible. Using these usually increases your download speed.

• The Canonical press releases for the PC & business users which have helpful 11.04 overviews. For higher level descriptions, the Canonical Tours of features & business and the release notes.

• For general Ubuntu information please see www.ubuntu.com or ask in one of Ubuntu's community support areas.

• The Ubuntu Developer Summit for Natty Narwhal was held Monday, 25 October - Friday 29 October 2010, in Orlando, FL, US. A Technical Overview and Blueprints were used as guides for producing this release.

Current LTS Ubuntu Release - 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx

• Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx was announced as Ubuntu's stable release April 29th, 2010. Release notes contain important information and should be read before should be read before upgrading or installing.

• The Canonical press releases for the desktop & server versions have helpful 10.04 LTS overviews. For higher level descriptions, the Canonical Tour of new features and the technical overview might be interesting.

• When downloading 10.04 LTS, please use the *.torrent files and mirrors whenever possible. Using these usually increases your download speed.

• For general Ubuntu information please see www.ubuntu.com If you encounter a technical problem please first try using your favorite search engine to find a solution or begin in one of Ubuntu's many community support areas.
