** Proposed text of Introduction e-mail/Letter. Please edit as appropriate. ** Dear ____________, We have noticed that you are hosting a program for youth learning this summer. The Ubuntu Vancouver Local Community (LoCo) is interested in partnering with you to provide an enriched learning experience for your attendees. We are a group of community volunteers that provide outreach and support for local computer users of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels. The Ubuntu Vancouver LoCo is planning a series of Summer Youth Workshops to provide youths between the ages of ___ and ___ with instruction in the use of Ubuntu, the popular (and free) operating system. The workshops will be a combination of instruction and hands-on learning and can be tailored to meet specific needs. With your help, we envision delivering a session (or more) to your program participants. We would provide the instructor, materials and computing facilities (if needed). Some background information: Ubuntu is a community developed, Linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications youths need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more. Ubuntu (the operating system) got its name from the African word Ubuntu meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The Ubuntu computer operating system brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world. Current users of Mac OSX, Windows, GNU/Linux will all benefit from these sessions. Youths will learn not only the use of the most current computer software and technology but also the values of civic engagement and community development. Please contact the organizer listed below for more information on partnering with us. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
