Summary

Started with Linux for personal use a long time ago. Since 2005 mainly the Ubuntu distribution. End 2005 I joined the Dutch forum to support other users. Since 2006 I write Dutch documentation wiki articles.

Background

Born in 1963 in the Netherlands. After my study start working as a computer-system engineer and still do. As an engineer it's easy to use Ubuntu and other open source software. There is lots of information available on the internet in the English language.

But for many Dutch users, information in there native language will be helpful to discover, try, use and understand the software Ubuntu offers. I joined the LoCo to help building and maintaining Dutch documentation. And it turns out to be fun to work together as a team and with other users.

Past activities

  • attended some LoCo Release Party's in the Netherlands

    • DenHaag (9.04)

    • Oss (9.10)
    • Ede (10.04)
  • attended the LoCo irl team-meeting in 2009 and 2010.

  • Created/Edited/Revised more than 100 articles on the Dutch Wiki, for example about Grub2, Wubi, Lost password, ...

  • Did a review and made corrections on many articles to help other authors.
  • Updated or re-structured old articles for example Install the Desktop or Using the terminal, VirtualBox, Wine, ...

  • Initiate a teampage and monthly irc team meeting to improve and maintain the documentation as a team.

  • Made some translations and screenshots for the Dutch translation of the Ubuntu Manual.

Current activities

Future plans

  • Continue to lead and expand the Dutch documentation team.
  • Make own contributions to the Dutch documentation wiki.
  • Stay involved and help the Ubuntu (LoCo) community where possible.

  • Very interested in new ways of (translating) documentation as the Ubuntu Manual.

Endorsements

  • "If it weren't for Cees tremendous efforts there wouldn't have been an Ubuntu NL Documentatie Team and our documentation would have been in a far worse shape. Thanks to his organisational work we now have a team to look after the documentation in a structured way. Cees has also been very active in LoCo politics, participating in the monthly IRC meetings, contributing to important discussions and helping with leading meetings. He is one of the more active persons in the Ubuntu NL community. Therefore I heartily endorse Cees Sluis for Ubuntu Membership." -- sense 2010-11-12 20:21:08
