New to this blogging art.
Got a part-time job, started Wednesday with webintegrations.co.uk. On Monday I go full-time as a System Administrator. Soon after I'll be starting this: http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01T121 open university course.
I'll be attempting to keep myself on track with this blog... I'm known for getting diverted, so we'll see how it goes.

Well, that's me finished my first week as a full-time sysadmin; realistically it's going to take me a month or more to really find my feet. This week I've mainly been working from a Sony Vaio lappy, pinkies keep catching the Enter and Caps Lock keys, which makes me swear every time. New desktop should be arriving for me on either Saturday or Monday, hoping to be allowed to stick Ubuntu on it as well as XP. We're all windows on the desktop and (almost) all Linux on the servers. I think Putty is the best thing about XP, to be honest, but I'd be far happier to be using a proper terminal and I'm hoping to be able to show my boss that (a) I work better with a well thought out operating system (*nix) and (b) Linux, in the form of Ubuntu, is ready for the desktop.
It's sure to be an uphill struggle, particularly as he's all about the .rpm's where I'm all about the .deb's.

Well, that's me been in the job for a month. It's been fun, one can definitely learn a lot more as a sysadmin than one can as a home user. Lots and lots of problems you just wouldn't encounter on your own.
Had a long weekend in Glasgow, just got back last night. Attended a ScotLUG meet, very good talk by one of the founders of the group on intrusion detection, made me a bit paranoid, to be honest; caught up with some friends and installed Ubuntu for two of them, much appreciated in both cases. Now it's Sunday and I've been doing a bit of work in the extra hour that changing the clocks to GMT gives us, got to get myself in motion to get to work for something that couldn't be done through the week.
Life is so much better since I became an Ubuntero
