I would like to do more bug triage. Packaging is fun, but a distributiun lives from fixing releavnt bugs as fast as possible and handle irrelevant bugs as good as we can to keep the user stasfied. I would like to see REVU returning as a platform for non MOTUs to upload packages, which are fixed and not new. The current method seems to be more inefficient for me. Who I am

My name is Christian and I am a junior lawyer from germany. So I am not in touch with it-business in my professionally life. Ubuntu and free software is my hobby and I like to contribute as much as my time allows.

My Ubuntu story

I am using kubuntu for several years now and I started my "Ubuntu story" with giving support in the german speaking kubuntu community (http://www.kubuntu-de.org).

We had varied history and currently I am the carrier of this website. I think we are quite successful and I hope we will be in future.

Some month ago I started my packaging carrier and since then I contributed the international way. There is still a lot of to learn for me, but I think I got in touch with Kubuntu development and I enjoy it.

My involvement

My fist involvement were some plasma-widget packages. After that I joined the Kubuntu "Ninjas" team and helped packaging KDE 4.3.*.

I am proud of packaging bilbo, which was not so easy for a beginner and took some time.

As I said before, there is still more room for learning, but I think I am ready now for joining the MOTU team.

Examples of my work / Things I'm proud of

  • plasma-widget-windowslist
  • plasma-widget-stasks
  • plasma-widget-fancytasks
  • plasma-widget-daisy
  • plasma-widget-plasmaboard
  • bilbo
  • koffice 2.0.8* (PPA only)
  • Helped packaging KDE 4.3*

Areas of work

I worked with the Kubuntu team. I already fixed some bugs, for example bug 409407 (which was fixed upstream before it succeeded) and bug 411020 (not my patch of course, I am not a coder)

Things I could do better

I would like to do more bug triage. Packaging is fun, but a distribution lives from fixing relevant bugs as fast as possible and handle irrelevant bugs as good as we can to keep the user satisfied.

General

What I like least in Ubuntu

It would be great if REVU returns as a platform for non MOTUs to upload packages (modified probably), which are fixed and not new. The current method seems to be more inefficient to me.
