Summary

Clamav and spamassassin are popular products used on mail server. They should be part of the main repository ready to be integrated in a mail server. For clamav, not all binaries need to be promoted. The specific use case driving promotion is integration with amavisd-new for mail scanning. Amavisd-new suggests clamav and clamav-daemon. This will require clamav-base, clamav-freshclam, and libclamav to also be promoted. The remaining clamav binaries can stay in Universe.

Release Note

Clamav-daemon (clamd) and spamassassin are available in the main repository.

Rationale

Clamav and spamassassin are popular products used on mail server and help fight viruses and spams. They should be part of the main repository.

Use Cases

  • Dan deploys a new mail server with the mail server task from the ubuntu server cd. He can install clamav and spamassin for anti-virus scanning and spam protection.
