Introduction

My first thoughts on the purpose of this team is to provide a means for Ubuntu (and Linux in general) users to find and be able to call upon other people in Connecticut for support, help and encouragement when demonstrating, install-fests and any other formal or informal meetings to discuss the uses and advantages people can find in Ubuntu.

This team is a work-in-progress and is definately not something rigid or set in stone. It should, first and foremost, be relaxed and fun! Most of us are working for a living in one form or another and some may have families. I cannot overlook my obligations and I am not about to demand anybody else overlook their obligations!

For jotting down notes and ideas, I've created a wiki:ConnecticutTeam/scratchpad which you are free to modify with ideas. The idea is to use this as a temporary spot for ideas, so that you can update it wherever (home, school, work, etc.) and/or refer somebody to take a look at it and get feedback if you don't want to go through the whole forum process.

How to Contribute

All work and no play makes casper a boring ghost

Working with this team should be fun, and enjoyable. Heaven knows nobody really wants to take on a drab, dull and boring job and what's the real use in that?

Some areas that are currently being worked on is

  1. Configuring and understanding the Launchpad site
  2. This Wiki Page
  3. Setting up a mailing list
  4. Setting up a Connecticut Forum ... (* DONE!)
  5. Setting up an IRC channel ........ (* DONE!)
  6. Scheduling a meeting for networking, brain-storming and familiarizing us with each other

A fair amount of time is being taken up trying to figure "how" things work, and then cleaning up the implementation from the experimenting. Anybody with experience with or are willing to oversee any aspect of the team, please feel free to contact me!

Documentation on how to do things is also appreciated, such as setting up a Forum, led me to setting up a contact, a mailing list and/or IRC channel. Links to specific documentation is also something that would be great to organize and list here.

Projects

Now that we are starting to get the tools in place for communicating and tracking activities, we need to start looking into activities to participate or initiate in the state.

Some quick ideas include

  • Demonstration at a computer club
  • Adult Education Classes (and pass out free, professional looking Ubuntu CDs!)
  • Participating in a computer club's meetings (even non-Linux groups as an informational talk)
  • Demonstrating to a school, nursery, preschool, etc. the benefits of [http://www.edubuntu.org Edubuntu]

  • Install-fests

Membership

Until we have the mailing list set up, the best ways to keep in contact include the Launchpad Membership ([https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-connecticut/+join/+login join]), keeping tabs on the [http://connecticut.ubuntuforums.org Connecticut Team Forum] and catching us when we are meeting in IRC (FreeNode's #ubuntu-connecticut)
