Bio & Interests
Since I grew up with computers around me, it seems I was always interested in making things work on computers.
Bio
Long ago I started programming in Pascal, Delphi and Basic. *shudder* Around 1996, I became active in http://unitopia.de - a MUD where I soon learned LPC (object oriented C obfuscation) and became infected with the OpenSource virus.
In 2000 I installed Debian and really meant it to use it, it was great: finally a Linux distro that was actively maintained and had a working package management. I followed the general discussions, wrote bug reports to Debian and Gnome, advocated Linux in my near environment, became part of the translator group gnome-de.org and active contributor to the UNIX working group at my university.
As part of my studies, I currently develop protosquared (http://protosquared.berlios.de) and (http://libaccustom.berlios.de) - a system to transparently store user preferences on a (very modular and configurable) server. I'm therefore interested in C++ and C very much and would love to do something worthwhile like maintaining packages.
Interests
I'd love to actively help in the Ubuntu project by:
- maintaining packages and discussing changes with Debian maintainers,
- keeping package versions recent and
- making packages standards-compliant,
- learning Python and give the desktop some GUI helper application love.
Now that I'm part of the [:MOTU] crew, I take care of Ubuntu Universe, fix bugs, maintain some packages myself and invite everyone to join the party.
