DavidGiard is a New Ubuntu Activist looking forward to becoming an Ubuntu Member. Most of is work is done in the Local User Group of The University of Sherbrooke (http://www.gulus.org) and in the CanadianTeam. I searched a long time but I couldn't easily find and/or send message to people from Quebec. This is why i decided to start the QuebecTeam. With the help from DanielRobitaille, PatrickHétu and FabianRodriguez, we've been able to build a fantastic community. There is more than 75 people on the mailing list you know. It was a lot of work to create this community, define what we are and what we are not. I used Drupal to build the web site http://www.ubuntu-qc.org/, i still pay for the hosting... ;) Anyway, it was a pleasure to build this community, and it still is a pleasure for me to see people like FabianRodriguez, helping out and making it grow.

I am currently working to find financing for the http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca mirror which will soon contain an updated Ubuntu Mirror. While i'm writing this, we are still in the process of creating/downloading/updating an Ubuntu Mirror, but it should be completed soon.

I may be new to Ubuntu, but i'm not a Linux Newbie, i have been using Linux since 1994.
I think i'll keep the rest of this page as it is because it reflect some of the work i had to do to make it possible.

 * Translating [ContactingLUGS] to French: [ContacterLesGULS].
 * Taking the commitment to contact my Local LUGS.
 * When i installed breezy, i experienced [http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9160 bug#9160]. A fix was already commited upstream so i have nothing to do except verify if the problem is solved when the next Breezy Iso will come out.
 * Reported [http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11380 bug #11380].
 * Added (Working Together) to [http://ubuntu.ca/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu-ca_LUG_Presentation Ubuntu-ca_LUG_Presentation].
 * I experienced [http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11389 bug #11389] and came up with the same solution (fix postinst path to xkbcomp) but a patch was already created.
 * Added a French Version to http://ubuntu.ca/wiki/index.php/CD_Insert.
For some time now, i've been doing translation for the CanadianTeam. But in doing so, i learned that things change too quickly and it is a waste of time because there is already the FrenchTeam and i think they do a really nice work. From that perspective, i've started to wonder where are all the people from my region. I live in Quebec, and there is no QuebecTeam for the moment i write this. I found out that some of us are working with the CanadianTeam, and others are working with the FrenchTeam. I dont want to denied the fact that separating things more than they are now would be bad.

But, i think it is important to create a community where we will be able to focus our efforts towards projects which relate to Quebec. Of course this would mean to continue to work with the CanadianTeam and the FrenchTeam. We dont want to stop working with them we want to focus our efforts when we do. We need a place where we can learn about each others, and help each others. We need a community where we can work on project that relate to the Quebec only.
Line 21: Line 14:
We need to be closer to the Quebec population so that we can advocate Ubuntu more easily. By doing so, we will have more people working on Ubuntu-Qc, Ubuntu-CA and Ubuntu-FR projects that there was without the Ubuntu-Qc Team.

I'm currently creating a web page for the QuebecTeam. It is currently at: http://www.ubuntu-qc.org/

I also seek others people interested to create a QuebecTeam. If you are, please contact me.

'''About Me''':

I live in Sherbrooke, Quebec. I talk French and English.

I have been using Linux since 1994. I'm not a programmer, but i do have some knowledge of bash scripting, php and python.
