Introduction
Life isn't fair. All distro's arent created equal. Some are boring , others not as configurable as we want. Then we have Enlightenment, the window manager for the rest of us.
So why not have the eye-candy and configurability of Ebuntu , with the clean and beautiful design of Ubuntu Linux?
Ebuntu is a project towards that goal.
Objective
The objective of the Ebuntu community project is to provide the maximum eye candy for the end-user using the enlightenment window manager and the related libraries.
The initial plan is to provide E17 on a livecd (derived from the Ubuntu LiveCD)
I should be able produce a install by the time Dapper releases (april 2006)
Ebuntu aims to provide an enhanced and attractive user-interface. The secondary aim of Ebuntu is to show off the eye-candy capabilites of the linux operating system in general and Ubuntu in particular
What has been done till now
Quite a lot / Not much yet. Depends on your point of view The iso is ready. It's working here without any major hiccups
We dont have a mailing list or our space on the ubuntu servers yet
Installing
Ebuntu 5.10 beta will be available as a live cd in a few days. The page will be updated when the cd has been uploaded.
Package selection
While selecting packages into Ebuntu, one must keep in mind that a consistent user interface must be provided and that we should deviate from Ubuntu as less as possible. Thus for the first release i have made the following changes to the Ubuntu LiveCD
Removed - GNome and all its dependencies - OpenOffice (just for size reasons)
Added - E17 + all the nice eye-candy apps
Artwork
Logo, Usplash, gdm theme, wallpapers, etc. We would also like loads and loads of epplets
