Ebuntu

Ebuntu Packages are ready for download and testing!. Please read the "Installing" section below

Introduction

Life isn't fair. All distro's arent created equal. Some are boring , others not as configurable as we want. Then we have Enlightenment, the window manager for the rest of us.

So why not have the eye-candy and configurability of Enlightenment, with the clean and beautiful design of Ubuntu Linux?

Ebuntu is a project towards that goal.

DISCLAIMER:

1) Ebuntu packages must be considered beta quality software. As of now, they are neither devloped , maintained or supported by the Ubuntu developers or packagers ( [https://wiki.ubuntu.com MOTU]'s.

2)Ebuntu is NOT an official Ubuntu project yet. We hope to make it by Dapper +1. This version of Ebuntu may be considered a preview to that release.

3) Ebuntu IS stable enough to considered for beta use. Help is required in packaging.

Objective

The objective of the Ebuntu community project is to provide the maximum eye candy for the end-user using the enlightenment window manager and the related libraries.

The initial plan is to provide E17 on a livecd (derived from the Ubuntu LiveCD). To go towards making a live cd, Ebuntu packages have been uploaded [http://ftp.ubuntu.org.cn/ebuntu-packages/ here]. Please read the installing section on how to install E17 to your current Ubuntu installation.

Ebuntu aims to become "offical" by dapper + 1 release.

Ebuntu aims to provide an enhanced and attractive user-interface. The secondary aim of Ebuntu is to show off the eye-candy capabilites of the linux operating system in general and Ubuntu in particular

Ebuntu 5.10 beta1 is ready and can be downloaded [http://ftp.ubuntu.org.cn/ebuntu-packages/ here]. Please read the INSTALL file carefully before installing.

These are the packages which will set up e17 on your system.

The same packages can be used to build an E17 live cd. I am in the process of doing it now. I need FTP servers to host the iso, if you interested, please [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Manishchakravarty contact me].

It will be possible to install Ebuntu to hard drive. Kindly follow the instruction given in [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveCDInstallHowTo Live CD Install Howto]

-OpenOffice office suite.

NOTE:

1) OpenOffice and Evolution has been removed due to space constraints.

2) The non GUI part , the core and the the X server are EXACTLY the same as Ubuntu 5.10 , thus making it a Ubuntu sister distro
