Lindependence 2008: July 4-11 2008

Lindependence 2008 introduces the town of Felton, California, to Linux and FOSS programs so they can go "Microsoft free" for a week with the intention for most (if not all) of them to remain on the proverbial Linux side of the digital fence.

Throughout the months of May and June, "town meetings" and installfests will take place to familiarize those who wish to participate in the project, with the week of digital freedom starting on U.S. Independence Day.

Ubuntu's participation in this project would be a vital component, and members of the California Ubuntu LoCo are welcome and urged to participate in this project.

Software Freedom Day: Sept 10th 2005

SoftwareFreedomDay is an annual, global event intended to increase public awareness of Free and Open Source Software.

The first SFD was celebrated on August 28, 2004. Over 70 registered volunteer teams distributed several thousand "SFD Packs" in more than 20 countries around the world. Each SFD pack contained a copy of [http://theopencd.org/ TheOpenCD] and a SFD-branded version of [http://knoppix.org KNOPPIX].

We're currently planning for SFD '05, and Ubuntu Live discs will be ideal for public distribution. SFD '05 has the potential to make a huge impact on the public awareness of FOSS, and it will be a great opportunity to increase Ubuntu mindshare as well. [http://softwarefreedomday.org/getinvolved.html Here] is how to get involved, and [http://softwarefreedomday.org/team-signup.shtml here] is where you can sign up to start your own SFD team.

Please see the [http://softwarefreedomday.org/ Software Freedom Day] website for more information.
