About me

I work at Canonical's Global Support Services center in Montreal, Canada as a senior support analyst and technical trainer since November 2006.

I am mostly interested in free technologies advocacy (including formats, content, licencing) & training for new users, with an emphasis on security.

I also work as an "open-technologies" advocate & coach (software , hardware, formats, licences) in and around Montreal, QC, Canada, focusing on security and migration issues.

These are some of my past contributions to Ubuntu, there's also a more detailed list.

  • Bug reporting, documentation and translation for Ubuntu, particularly Xubuntu (XFCE)

  • I regularly blog about Ubuntu for Ubuntu-FR.org

  • Started UbuntuInLibraries, CanadianPress, also helping create the ColombianTeam and QuebecTeam LoCos

  • Ubuntu advocacy at local events (Ontario and Quebec). See ConferenceAppearances .

  • I've installed Ubuntu (Hoary) to my 60 yr.-old parents in Colombia, 1 support call since Aug. 2005, a very convincing use case
  • I offer Ubuntu professional training and consulting in Quebec province - as listed in Marketplace - North America

  • I regularly relay Ubuntu news and usecases to my business contacts and to the most active and visible organizations involved in free software and free computing in Quebec province. I have strong links to the local community (see organizations below).
  • Over the past year I have created a CD-insert in spanish and french to help promote Ubuntu through CDs - 900 copies estimated distribution, used by several LUGs in Europe and LatinAmerica.

Plans & vision for Ubuntu

I see Ubuntu becoming an essential tool to make Gnu/Linux more accessible to everyone, starting with my parents and close friends Smile :) I feel it's a community that is open enough to let anyone participate to the extent of their abilities and availability.

As part of my professional but also personal activities, I plan on focusing on the following:

In all teams

  • Keeping the Ubuntu community open and friendly, following the code of conduct
  • Contributing and teaching others how to contribute through in tasks that will make the MOTU's work easier
  • Actively encouraging people to register to Launchpad and document their participation
  • Encouraging participation in UbuntuInLibraries

In Quebec, as part of the Ubuntu-QC team

  • Actively marketing and selling Ubuntu-related services locally:
  • * Training
  • * Servers install and support
  • * Desktop migration and support
  • Becoming a liaison for local support & advocacy

  • Participating or organazing events with Ubuntu mentions / presence

In Colombia, as part of the Ubuntu-CO team

  • Mentoring ElkinBotero (the team leader) and the members to officialize the team

  • Actively monitoring and helping with the IRC channel, mailing list and initial web resources (forums, etc.)
