Changes for this release (compared to Bionic Beaver)

Audio

  • The Ubuntu Studio Team have continued to work on Ubuntu Studio Controls for the Cosmic Release. It is possible to set the CPU governor to performance mode, which is important for recording. BIOS settings may need to be changed for this setting to take effect. It is also possible to start and stop Jack, and to change audio settings on the fly. Sensible settings for audio work are also set when the application is first run. Ubuntu Studio Controls can be used as an alternative to QJackctl for most routine audio recording work.

Graphics

  • GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) upgraded to version 2.10.6
  • Krita upgraded to version 4.1.5

Publishing

  • no changes

Video

  • kdenlive upgraded to version 18.04.3

Current Version Of Main Multimedia Packages

Known Problems

Ubuntu Studio uses the same XFCE desktop environment as the official Xubuntu release, and thus, may be affected by some of the same issues. This is also true of the core packages of the mainline Ubuntu release. You can see their release notes here (Xubuntu) and here (Ubuntu)

Support

Ubuntu Studio Bionic Beaver (18.10) will be supported for 9 months until August 2019. If you need Long Term Support, it is recommended you use Ubuntu Studio Xenial 16.04 LTS instead.
