ECS has a line of laptops or "mobile desktops" with Intel Pentium or Tansmeta Crusoe based models. Currently, only the ECS Desknote A530+ has been tested with Ubuntu -- Summary of features and things that work below. Mostly all of the hardware in the system appear to have been detected upon install time and by the LiveCD -- this is true so far as Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog is concerned.

Transmeta Crusoe LongRun

Untested

Because the kernels installed by Ubuntu do not have built-in CPUID and MSR support, they have to be enabled and the longrun utility still has yet to be invoked on the commandline. The cpufreq-selector utility may also be used, but has not been known to support longrun-specific features.

Display

Yes

Supported screen resolution of 1024x768 detected and enabled upon installation.

Aug. 13, 2005

Internal Modem

No

To be able to use the internal modem, smlink drivers from http://www.smlink.com/ have to be downloaded, compiled, and installed to use the internal modem. -- See ["WinModemM5457"].
