This page serves as an information base for users of the Ubuntu IRC channels. The Ubuntu channels can be found on the Freenode network, irc.freenode.net. xchat in Ubuntu has this network preconfigured and the main channel, #ubuntu, will automatically be joined. When participating in Ubuntu IRC channels, please abide by the [http://www.ubuntulinux.org/community/conduct/ Code of Conduct].

For more info about Xchat, see the XchatHowto

== Logs ==
There are 2 logging bots active: ubuntulog and LocoBot. The latter can join your channel if you want to. Contact smurfix if you want this bot to join your channel.

The logs can be found online at

 * http://people.ubuntu.com/~fabbione/irclogs/ (ubuntulog)
 * http://ubuntu-de.org/logs/freenods/ (LocoBot)

== Infobots ==
The main infobot is called ubotu. He is owned and operated by cafuego. This bot contains the facts database and is active in #ubuntu. Details on how to operate him can be found on the UbotuUsage page. The fact database can be found on http://ubuntu.cc.com.au

The second infobot is Ubugtu and is only active in #ubuntu-desktop and #launchpad where he listens fro bugzilla/malone urls and bugnumbers and will give info about the mentioned bugs.

== Registration ==
Lately freenode has become infected with spambots. To combat them, the main ubuntu channel is sometimes closed to unregistered users. Registering on freenode is really easy, see www.freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup for the details on registration.

Ubuntu members with registered nicknames can get an Ubuntu hostname cloak. If you want such a cloak, contact Dennis Kaarsemaker (Seveas on freenode, dennis@ubuntu.com) to get one.
