This page serves as an information base for users of the Ubuntu IRC channels. The Ubuntu channels can be found on the Freenode network, irc.freenode.net. xchat in Ubuntu has this network preconfigured and the main channel, #ubuntu, will automatically be joined. When participating in Ubuntu IRC channels, please abide by the [http://www.ubuntulinux.org/community/conduct/ Code of Conduct].

For more info about Xchat, see the ["XChatHowto"]

Logs

There are 2 logging bots active: ubuntulog and LoCoBot. The latter can join your channel if you want to. Contact smurfix if you want this bot to join your channel.

The logs can be found online at

Infobots

The main infobot is called ubotu. He is owned and operated by cafuego. This bot contains the facts database and is active in #ubuntu. Details on how to operate him can be found on the UbotuUsage page. The fact database can be found on http://ubuntu.cc.com.au

The second infobot is Ubugtu and is only active in #ubuntu-{desktop,devel,bugs,motu,offtopic}, #kubuntu-devel, #bzr and #launchpad where he listens for bugzilla/malone/debbugs urls and bugnumbers and will give info about the requested bugs. In #ubuntu-offtopic a few fun-features are enabled as well.

Registration

[http://launchpad.net/people/ubuntumembers Ubuntu members] with [http://www.freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup registered nicknames] can get an Ubuntu hostname cloak. If you want such a cloak, contact Dennis Kaarsemaker (Seveas on freenode, dennis@ubuntu.com) to get one.

Operators

The current list of IRC operators for the main rooms can be found at [:IRCOperators: IRCOperators]. Operators can help you if there is a problem or disturbance in the channel.
