Aquestes notes de la versió documenten problemes coneguts i qüestions a tenir en compte amb l'Ubuntu 8.10 i les seves variants.

Requeriments del sistema

Els requeriments mínims de memòria de l'Ubuntu 8.10 són 256 MiB (tingueu en compte que pot ser que part de la memòria del sistema no estigui disponible degut al fet que la targeta gràfica la utilitzi).

Si només disposeu de la quantitat de memòria requerida mínima, el procés d'instal·lació trigarà més del que és normal, però es completarà correctament i el sistema funcionarà adequadament un cop hagi finalitzat la instal·lació. Els sistemes amb poca memòria poden utilitzar el CD per a la instal·lació de l'escriptori amb l'opció d'arrencada «Instal·la l'Ubuntu». D'aquesta manera només s'executarà l'instal·lador en comptes de carregar l'escriptori complet, que és el que faria l'opció «Proveu l'Ubuntu sense fer cap canvi al vostre ordinador».

Instal·lació

Els paquets recomanats s'instal·len ara per defecte

En acordança amb el manual de les directives de Debian (el qual especifica que el camp «Recommends» d'un paquet hauria de mostrar una llista de paquets que haurien d'estar instal·lats juntament amb aquell a totes les instal·lacions habituals), el sistema de gestió de paquets instal·la ara de manera predeterminada els paquets llistats en el camp Recommends:, tal com es fa amb aquells marcats com a Depends:. Si voleu evitar aquest comportament per a paquets individuals, utilitzeu l'ordre «apt-get --no-install-recommends», i si voleu evitar-ho permanentment, establiu l'opció «APT::Install-Recommends "false";» al fitxer «/etc/apt/apt.conf». Tingueu en compte però que això pot resultar en la manca de funcions en alguns programes.

Inici lent del pas «Seleccioneu i instal·leu programari» en l'instal·lador en mode de text

És possible que el pas de selecció i instal·lació de programari en el mode de text del CD d'instal·lació sembli bloquejar-se en un percentatge baix. Això es fa notar especialment per a instal·lacions «netboot», on no es mostrarà l'actualització de la barra de progrés durant el procés de baixada de paquets. Això és degut a un error en la interacció entre l'instal·lador i l'«apt-get», el qual fou descobert massa tard per a solucionar-lo per a l'Ubuntu 8.10: error 290234.

Podeu esbrinar si l'instal·lador està progressant si premeu la combinació de tecles Alt-F4 per a commutar la consola de registre. En prémer la combinació Alt-F1 tornareu a l'instal·lador principal. (En cas que estigueu instal·lant dins el QEMU o el KVM, tingueu en compte que haureu de prémer Ctrl-C o fer clic a la finestra de manera que l'emulador obtingui el focus aband de prémer Alt-F4; en cas contrari es tancarà l'emulador.)

oem-config fails to handle some languages properly

The OEM end-user configuration tool mishandles selection of languages that do not use the ASCII or ISO-8859-1 character sets, and the end user will end up with no localisation set after selecting such languages (bug 290580). The list of known-good languages is as follows: Basque, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Indonesian, Italian, Northern Sami, Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog.

For the meantime, OEMs affected by this problem may apply this patch (the scripts/tzsetup part) to the file /usr/lib/oem-config/timezone/tzsetup before running "Prepare for shipping to end user". We expect to release an update for this in due course, which will be installable via the normal packaging system at that same stage.

Es possible que no es mostrin els discos durs en instal·lar en mode de CD autònom

Si l'usuari navega per un o més discos durs en el mode de CD autònom abans d'iniciar la instal·laciño, l'Ubiquity no permetrà la instal·lació en aquells discos. Caldrà excloure'ls abans, atès que no es pot particionar cap disc que tingui particions ocupades (muntades). Password limitation with ecryptfs

Users of the alternate/server installation who choose a password containing a "%" or a "-" will end up with an encrypted ~/Private directory that will not mount on reboot and subsequent logins. To fix this, affected users will need to do the following in the newly installed system:

1. Update ecryptfs-utils to at least version 53-1ubuntu12 (as soon as it becomes available as a package update)

2. Run: $ ecryptfs-setup-private --force

"Free software only" option installs restricted software

The "Free software only" option, available by pressing F6 twice on the first screen of the desktop CD/DVD, will install the restricted package, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-7-generic. This can be worked around by removing the linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-7-generic package after the installation completes.

Note that the "Free software only" option does not install any other restricted software.

Actualització

Els usuaris de l'Ubuntu 8.04 podran dur a terme l'actualització a la versió 8.10 de manera convenient a través d'un procés automatitzat. Els usuaris de versions més antigues de l'Ubuntu hauran d'actualitzar-les a la 8.04 LTS abans i seguidament a la 8.10. Compatibilitat amb les targetes gràfiques nVidia antigues

Les variants 71 i 96 dels controladors de propietat d'nVidia distribuïdes en els paquets nvidia-glx-legacy i nvidia-glx a l'Ubuntu 8.04 no són compatibles amb la versió de l'X.Org inclosa a l'Ubuntu 8.10. Això afectarà als usuaris de les targetes amb els xips TNT, TNT2, TNT Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, i GeForce4 d'nVidia, per als quals s'instal·larà el controlador lliure nv durant l'actualització. Cal remarcar, però, que aquest controlador no permet l'acceleració en 3D.

Als usuaris d'altres xips d'nVidia que funcionin amb les variants 173 o 177 del controlador se'ls instal·laran els paquets nvidia-glx-173 o nvidia-glx-177. Tot i això, i a diferència dels controladors de les sèries 96 i 71, els controladors 173 i 177 només funcionen amb CPU que siguin compatibles amb les extensions SSE, com ara les del Pentium III d'Intel i dels Athlon XP o superiors d'AMD. Els sistemes amb CPU més antigues s'actualitzaran al controlador nv.

Compatibilitat de vídeo del controlador «fglrx» d'ATI

El controlador de vídeo d'ATI de la versió 8.10 ja no és compatible amb targetes gràfiques basades en els xips r300 (la sèrie de targetes radon 9500 - X600). En cas que tingueu alguna d'aquestes targetes, haureu d'utilitzar el programa «Controladors de maquinari» al menú Sistema -> Administració per a inhabilitar-lo abans de l'actualització. Consulteu l'informe d'error 284408 per a obtenir més informació.

Dispositius d'entrada per a l'X.Org

El fitxer de configuració de l'X.Org (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) encara conté les entrades InputDevice per al ratolí i el teclat, tot i que seran ignorades degut al fet que ara s'utilitza l'input-hotplug. Els paràmetres del teclat provenen ara del fitxer /etc/default/console-setup, i si els voleu modificar haureu d'executar l'ordre «sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup», després de la qual haureu de reiniciar el HAL i el servidor X (per exemple a través d'un reinici del sistema).

Incompatibilitat de l'xmodmap del controlador evdev de l'X.Org

Els codis de tecla del servidor X generats amb el nou controlador evdev a l'X.Org 1.5 no són compatibles amb aquells generats a l'Ubuntu 8.04 LTS i a les versions anteriors. Si heu assignat vinculacions de tecles per al vostre usuari a través d'un fitxer ~/.Xmodmap, haureu de convertir-lo o inhabilitar-lo a mà durant l'actualització.

Nucli de temps real per a l'UbuntuStudio

La variant de temps real del nucli inclosa a l'Ubuntu 8.10 no és compatible amb sistemes de processament múltiple simètric (SMP). Els usuaris de l'UbuntuStudio 8.04 que utilitzin sistemes de nucli doble («dual-core»), de processador doble o altres configuracions SMP més complexes i els calgui utilitzar la funció de temps real del nucli no haurien d'actualitzar-lo a l'UbuntuStudio 8.10 encara.

Toshiba laptop hotkey support

The tlsup kernel driver included in Linux 2.6.27 for support for Toshiba laptops is not compatible with the X.Org 1.5 event model, as a result of which hotkeys on these laptops are not usable with Ubuntu 8.10. This will be addressed in a post-release kernel update to reintroduce the toshiba_acpi driver.

Boot failures on systems with Intel D945 motherboards

If this reported failure occurs, the system will drop to a busybox initramfs shell with a "Gave up waiting for root device." error. Wait a minute or two and then exit the initramfs shell by typing 'exit'. Booting should proceed normally. If it doesn't wait a bit longer and try again. Once the system boots, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add rootdelay=90 to the kernel stanza for your current kernel.(bug 290153).

Kubuntu KDE4 remix

In some cases an upgrade from Hardy Heron KDE 4 Remix to Intrepid Ibex isn't done for all applications. This will happen if the package kubuntu-desktop was removed. We strongly advise to ensure kubuntu-desktop, and if KDE 4 is installed also kubuntu-kde4-desktop, is installed before upgrading. The release upgrader will ensure this automatically but its important for manual upgrades.

Support for ssl/blowfish-v0.2, version 2:0:1 not in encfs

Backward compatibility for this old algorithm was dropped in the 1.4.x version of encfs included in Intrepid. Before upgrading, users of this algorithm will have to manually migrate their encfs volumes to a new one created with the new version. Alternatively, you may stay at an old version of encfs to be able to read the volumes.

Blocatges del sistema amb els adaptadors de xarxa sense fil 4965 d'Intel

La versió del controlador d'adaptadors per a xarxa sense fil iwlagn per als xips 4965 d'Intel que s'inclou al nucli Linux 2.6.27 provoca pànics al nucli en utilitzar-la en xarxes 802.11n o 802.11g. Els usuaris afectats per aquest problema poden instal·lar el paquet linux-backports-modules-intrepid per a obtenir una versió més nova del controlador que corregeixi el problema. La raó per la qual aquest pedaç no s'inclou al paquet principal del nucli és perquè requereix una versió nova del controlador.

El controlador ath5k per a adaptadors de xarxes sense fil d'Atheros no està habilitat per defecte

La versió dels controlador d'adaptadors per a xarxa sense fil ath5k per als dispositius del fabricant Atheros inclosa al nucli Linux 2.6.27 interfereix amb el controlador madwifi, per la qual cosa s'ha inhabilitat de manera predeterminada. Un gran nombre de xips d'Atheros funcionaran amb el controlador madwifi, però és possible que els més nous no hi siguin compatibles i que el madwifi no funcioni amb el mètode d'autenticació WPA. En cas que tingueu un dispositiu d'Atheros que no funcioni amb el controlador madwifi, és recomanable que instal·leu el paquet linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic, el qual inclou una versió actualitzada del controlador ath5k. Tot i no estar instal·lat per defecte, el paquet linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic s'inclou al CD i DVD de l'Ubuntu 8.10 per a fer-ne més fàcil la instal·lació.

No es poden tornar a activar els adaptadors de xarxa sense fil 3945/4965 d'Intel en iniciar amb l'interruptor d'inhabilitació activat

En iniciar aquells ordinadors portàtils que incloguin els xips d'adaptador de xarxa sense fil 3945 o 4965 d'Intel amb l'interruptor d'inhabilitació de l'antena activat (és a dir, amb la xarxa sense fil inhabilitada) no es podrà tornar a habilitar la xarxa sense fil a través d'aquest. Com a solució temporal, els usuaria afectats haurien d'iniciar el sistema amb l'interruptor desactivat. Es preveu que una propera actualització del nucli solucionarà aquest problema.

Ordre d'arrencada iSCSI

Pot ser que els sistemes de fitxers en suports iSCSI no es muntin automàticament a l'inici, tot i estar especificats al fitxer /etc/fstab, si es requereix un adaptador Ethernet de pont o vinculat per a accedir al suport iSCSI. Com a solució temporal, es pot reiniciar el servei open-iscsi i muntar el sistema de fitxers afectat manualment després de l'inici del sistema un cop la interfície d'Ethernet en qüestió s'hagi activat. Això no afecta els sistemes equipats amb una interfície Ethernet normal.

Cannot support mounting multiple iSCSI targets at the same time

Mounting multiple iSCSI targets at the same time is currently not supported. Systems configured to use more than one iSCSI targets should not be upgraded to Intrepid.

Wireless doesn't work after suspend with ath_pci driver

Wireless devices that use the ath_pci kernel driver, such as the Atheros AR5212 wireless card, will be unable to connect to the network after using suspend and resume. To work around this issue, users can create a file /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi containing the single line:

   SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci

This will cause the module to be unloaded before suspend and reloaded on resume.

Systems installed from pre-release daily images may be missing

A bug present in pre-release daily desktop images caused some files related to language support to be missing from installed systems. Uninstalling and reinstalling the language support packages should correct this issue.

This issue does not affect users who installed using the Ubuntu 8.10 Beta or Release Candidate.

Kubuntu Bluetooth support

Bluetooth is not supported in Kubuntu 8.10 because KDE does not yet support the bluez 4.x stack required for compatibility with the kernel used in 8.10. A fix for this is being evaluated as a post-release update. (bug 280997)

KNetworkManager cannot manage connections with static IPs

KNetworkManager in Kubuntu 8.10 sometimes fails with network connections that require static IP address configuration (bug 280762). Connections which use DHCP for IP address configuration are not affected by this problem.

Can not login after upgrade from Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 4 Remix

After an upgrade from Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 4 Remix, logging in will return directory to the login screen again. The x-session-manager alternative link is not correctly updated. Select "KDE" from the Session Menu before logging in and fix it with update-alternatives --set x-session-manager /usr/bin/startkde. (bug 287488).

Using usb-creator with 8.04.1 (Hardy) images

Persistence support in 8.04.1 images is broken. Creating a USB disk with usb-creator and a 8.04.1 image results in a busybox prompt if the persistence option is checked.

Only US wireless channels enabled by default on Intel 3945

The iwl3945 wireless driver defaults to the US regulatory domain for wireless, so wireless networks on channels forbidden by US regulations but permitted by European or Japanese regulations will not work out of the box. This affects IEEE 802.11b/g channels 12 (Europe and Japan), 13 (Europe and Japan), and 14 (Japan only), as well as all 802.11a channels. (Some other wireless drivers may be affected; this is the only one we are sure of so far.)

To work around this, add the following line to the /etc/modprobe.d/options file if you use this driver and need to use European wireless channels:

options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU

Alternatively, add the following line if you use this driver and need to use Japanese wireless channels:

options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=JP

Cyrus SASL database created with incorrect permissions

Cyrus SASL creates the database for its sasldb2 plugin with incorrect permissions. As a result, other users of this database, such as cyrus-imap, will not be able to access it and will fail. This does not affect upgrades of existing databases from a previous release. The workaround is to manually change the group of /etc/sasldb2 to sasl:

$ sudo chgrp sasl /etc/sasldb2

Access to Java Runtime Environment

To use Java programs, you need to install the openjdk-6-jre package whch contains the Java Runtime Environment. If you want to develop Java programs, then install the openjdk-6-jdk package. To work with Java applets in the Firefox browser and compatible browsers on x86 architectures, you need to install the icedtea6-plugin package by hand.

The JRE and the Java applet plugin are installed by default in the live session on the Ubuntu DVD, but are not currently installed elsewhere due to space constraints. However, a missing feature in the installer means that these packages will not be installed when installing using the graphical installer on the DVD, so you will need to install them afterwards.

CD eject problems

After ejecting a CD tray containing a disc, the tray will be immediately retracted, making it difficult to remove the disc (bug 283316). This can be worked around by pressing the eject button again before the disc is fully mounted, after which it will stay open. We expect to fix this in a post-release update.
