I started venturing into Linux back in early 2005. I had downloaded Ubuntu 5.04 because I had always heard many great things about it. However, it refused to install from a DVD drive, and as a result, I tried SuSE. Fast forward to May 2006: Dapper was becoming more and more popular, and I installed it and never went back to any other distribution. I haven't booted Windows in nearly a year (on my PC) and I have given out around 20 copies of Ubuntu since, and have personally installed around 10 on other's machines.

Me

I'm Jacob Peddicord, a web developer and Ubuntu user.

I'm a student/programmer. I know PHP/MySQL, Python, C++, HTML/CSS, and Javascript/AJAX technologies, to name a few. I especially love Python, though I'm having trouble finding out where I can actually use it.

Contributions to Ubuntu

  • Bug triaging; I try to do this whenever I have some free time
  • Forums:
  • Helping out with the Ohio LoCo team:

    • Operating #ubuntu-ohio on irc.freenode.net
    • Maintaining http://ohio.ubuntu-us.org

    • Trying to keep the email robots from breaking loose and wreaking havoc
    • Answering callback requests over-the-phone
  • I wrote the [https://launchpad.net/loco-drupal-support LoCo Support System] for Drupal

    • Originally called "the f2f project," I started working on this in April 2007.
    • Finalized for production use on June 1, it ran only on the off-site [http://ohio.ubuntu-us.org Ohio server].

    • Less than a week later on June 7, I published the code on Launchpad under the GPL by popular demand.

FOSS Contributions (not necessarily Ubuntu)

  • I blog on [http://fosswire.com FOSSwire], which has become relatively popular in recent months, along with [http://peter.upfold.org.uk/ Peter Upfold]. Our host probably wants to kill us for using more than 30% of the server daily.

  • Not working for Microsoft (a contribution in itself) Wink ;)
