My first linux experience was in mid 1995 with a set of Red Hat cd's a friend af mine had ordered off the net. Soon after I was hooked and did whatever I could to keep linux as my primarely OS. A really tough job in "the early days". RPM and I never became friends so within the year i switched to Debian and became an advocant for the disto. I switched to Ubuntu 4.10 (and now Breezy) for many reasons but first and foremost because i needed a Debian (with Gnome) more tuned towards laptop-useage. Even though i'm a linux-user 2 other operating system have a special place in my heart. QNX Neutrino RTOS and BeOS because they remined me of my PPC/Amiga heritage :-) Today I still miss manny features from the two in linux! |

A really tough job in "the early days" when stuff didn't always 'worked out of the box' (tm). For manny reasons RPM and I never became friends and within the year i switched to Debian and quickly became an advocate for the disto and apt. I switched to Ubuntu (back then 4.10 beta) for many reasons, but first and foremost because i needed a Debian distro with Gnome focus that was more tuned towards laptop-useage. Since then I've been if possible even more hooked on linux and especially Ubuntu! Even though i'm a hardcore-linux-user one other operating system have a special place in my heart - BeOS. It remineds me of my PPC/Amiga heritage and how a great superior vision and a small dedicated team of developers can leap-jump us a decade ahead of the competition :-) Today I still miss manny features from BeOS even in linux 10 years after BeOS demise! |
