System Info

FlorianPurucker:

Dell Inc. Latitude D630 (System-Version not specified)

  • Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2 GHz 4 MB L2 cache 800 MHz FSB)
  • Chipset : Intel Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960
  • Southbridge : 82801H (ICH8-M)
  • Memory : DDR2-SDRAM PC5300 - 2x1024 MB
  • Audio : Intel HD Audio
  • NIC : Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5755M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express

  • WiFi : Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 AGN Network Connection

  • Video : Intel GMA X3100
  • Display : 1440x900
  • Screen : 14.1" LCD

This system has been tested with the 32-bit-version of Gutsy Gibbon as well as with the 64-bit-version. They both behave almost identically, except the 64-bit-version returns from hibernate about 25% faster (much to my surprise).

GarrettW: Mostly the same, differences below:

  • Video: nVidia Quadro NVS-135m

ChristianPietsch: The same as in the list above except:

  • Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2 GHz 4 MB L2 cache 800 MHz FSB)
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM

SnappyCrunch: Same as FlorianPurucker except:

  • Video: nVidia Quadro NVS-135m
  • Wifi: Dell Wireless 1390 (Broadcom BCM4311 chipset)

  1. Tested by SnappyCrunch on Ubuntu 8.10 32bit, with the hardware listed above (1)

  2. Intel card is blacklisted for desktop effects at the moment, but they can still be activated by following the instructions at http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/Blacklist. Another solution, which does not break video overlay is doing the following: sudo aptitude install xserver-xgl (2)

  3. With proprietary nVidia drivers. (3)

  4. FlorianPurucker: Without sound driver, computer wakes up with error message, although it wakes up correctly.BRGarretW: I'm able to hibernate fine, after following "method G" from [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller] and using the /etc/defaults/acpi-support from [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellLatitudeD830] (4)

  5. Works fine undocked or docked, but moving between those states seems to cause issues. Using the /etc/defaults/acpi-support from [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellLatitudeD830] works fine. (5 6)

  6. FlorianPurucker: Without sound driver, computer wakes up with error message, although it wakes up correctly.BRGarretW: Suspend does not work when docked but does otherwise, after following "method G" from [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller] and using the /etc/defaults/acpi-support from [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellLatitudeD830] (7)

  7. Brightness is all done in hardware; no software control at all that I can see. You can alter the on battery/on AC brightness settings in the BIOS. (8)

  8. After using method G at [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller]. (9)

  9. The following needs to be done on a fresh install of Intrepid to enable the internal microphone: *Run "alsamixer -Dhw" *Tab to the Capture section *Make sure that "Capture" and "Capture 1" both have a red "CAPTUR" below them, otherwise they are muted. *Also recommended are setting the "Mux" and "Mux 1" sliders all the way up if you are using a mic for videoconferencing or games, but not if you are attempting to record music. (10)

  10. Drivers for Dell 1390 (Broadcom BCM4311 chipset) are proprietary, and need to be installed via the Hardware Drivers tool. The Intel wireless chipset should be ready to go out of the box (11)

  11. Detected properly, but I lack any devices to test it with. (12)

  12. Not present in my selection of components. (13 14 15 16 17 18 19)

  13. Does not detect PCI slot if the laptop is powered on undocked and then subsequently docked. (20)

  14. The Hibernate button does work, but the system does not resume from hibernate correctly (21)

  15. SnappyCrunch: When using a resolution less than the native LCD resolution, this key should alternate between three modes: 1:1 matching resolution to screen, stretched to take up maximum screen space while maintaining correct aspect ratio, and stretched to fit the whole screen, regardless of aspect ratio. (22)

  16. Depends on the driver. nv driver seems to do OK with it, but the nVidia binary does not resize the screen properly. (23)
