Project Outline

The project's goals are to build and maintain an interactive learning environment(s) to support teaching all aspects of the Ubuntu Ecosystem.

We intend to do this by working with existing teams such as the classroom team, MOTU Team, Bug Squad, Doc Team, Desktop Training, and LoCo's to develop an integrated training solution that will allow the community to undertake self paced and instructor lead teaching in conjunction with IRC based training and question times, challenges etc. As well as providing quality training materials that will assist in learning without requiring as much classroom time.

The intention of this program is to avoid competition with the existing official training program, and supplement existing community training programs. This training will cover some similar topics but will not have any accreditation or certification associated with it, and may eventually act as a feeder into the official components. The information contained is intended to supplement the teaching work already being done by several groups (mentioned above) and provide it all in one place.

Our initial goal is to provide four programs for the new user, the sysadmin, marketing, and a stream for someone who wants to contribute to Ubuntu. These idea's have been based on new user feedback, requests to the Ubuntu Forums Beginners Team, to the Classroom Team and to Physical LoCo Classrooms. Our proposed course programs can be found in the sections below.

Our intention is to release all materials under a Creative Commons license, CC-BY-SA, with the intention to allow case by case waivers to allow recognized educational institutions to re-use work. This has not been finalised and any objections will be taken into consideration. If you have an objection please contact Matthew Lye or one of the other key people below.

Course Creation Process

We are currently requesting community input on the four programs we are planning on having at the end of Stage 1. The community training will be a continual process which is why we are marking the development in stages. Please feel free to select an area you are interested in and input training ideas for courses you would like to see in the following programs:

We are planning on two kinds of materials for a given course. The first is a set of materials which closely follow the lesson topics, including challanges, further information and so on, this is the standard course materials that will be conducted by a trainer. The second part is background materials, information about topics which people will need to understand in order to grasp what they are going to be doing in a lesson. This could be generated information or information already present in the wiki and help documentation and some topics my only require one part.
