Requirements

  1. Availability: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/n/nvidia-settings/; available for i386 and amd64 architectures

  2. Rationale:

    • Recommended but the nvidia-glx-$VER packages
    • It's extremely useful to configure NVIDIA's proprietary driver as regards power management, colour correction, multiple screens, etc.
  3. Security:

    • CVE entries: none

    • Secunia history: none

    • Any binaries running as root or suid/sgid ? No Any daemons ? No

  4. Quality assurance:

    • In what situations does the package not work out of the box without configuration ? When the "nvidia" driver is not enabled in X. Furthermore it has to be launched as root in order to save the settings to the xorg.conf (i.e. only in some cases)

    • Does the package ask any debconf questions higher than priority 'medium' ? No

    • Debian bugs: Ubuntu-only package (for now; I've talked with them about adopting it in the future)

    • Maintenance in Debian is frenetic/vigorous/calm/dead ? calm

    • Upstream is frenetic/vigorous/calm/dead ? vigorous

    • [[|Upstream bug tracker]]: None

    • Hardware: Does this package deal with hardware and if so how exotic is it ? Yes but it does so through nvcontrol.

    • Is there a test suite in the upstream source or packaging ? No Is it enabled to run in the build ? No

  5. Standards compliance:

  6. Dependencies:

    • Build-Depends: debhelper, m4, libgtk2.0-dev, libxext-dev, xutils-dev, libxrandr-dev, libgl1-mesa-dev, libxxf86vm-dev, libxv-dev, dpatch (in main)
  7. Background information:

    • nvidia-settings is NVIDIA's control panel for NVIDIA's proprietary driver.
    • What do upstream call this software ? nvidia-settings Has it had different names in the past ? No
