Requirements

1. Availability: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/u/upstart, available for all supported architectures

2. Rationale:

   • Required component of ReplacementInit

3. Security:

   • No CVE entries.

   • No Secunia history.

   • No binaries running suid/sgid.
   • All binaries run as root, and check uid before allowing to be run.
   • Daemon listens on a abstract-namespace UNIX domain port, and checks credentials of all incoming messages.
   • Source code review: shallow review ok, thorough one pending

4. Quality assurance:

   • Package works out of the box without configuration.
   • Package does not ask any debconf questions higher than priority 'normal'.
   • Maintained in house.
   • Does not deal with exotic hardware which we cannot support.

5. Standards compliance:

   • Meets the FHS, Debian Policy

   • Meets Debian library packaging guide standards.

   • Standard debhelper/cdbs/dbs packaging, standard patch system.
