Roadmap for 2012/2013

• Strengthening Ubuntu-MY structure by:

  • Finding more volunteer to be key-members in Ubuntu-MY for each team as stated in Ubuntu-MY Organisation Chart

  • Full documentation for encouraging existing and incoming Ubuntu-MY members to be registered into launchpad, and take part in all Ubuntu-MY project.

  • To fully comply of Ubuntu-LoCo requirement as an Approved LoCo members.

• New activites:

  • Juju & Ubuntu Cloud Awareness activities

  • Juju Charm School

Achievements of 2011/2012 Roadmap

• Registered with ROS

  • We put K.I.V status on this plan since in order to achieve this we need a numbers of active members who can give more commitment to Ubuntu-MY. So, for 2012/2013 we will try to gather the most active members and strengthening Ubuntu-MY first as stated in the roadmap above.

• Spreading Ubuntu (continuous efforts)

  • This is our on-going process where we always spread the Ubuntu to various organization as well as individuals.

  • We found that most Malaysians are actively using Facebook for online communication. Therefore, we took an effort to manage Ubuntu Malaysia LoCo Team group on Facebook which currently have almost 2000 members  —  from only 795 members last year  —  for easy local support.
    
    

• We still maintain our IRC channel #ubuntu-my on freenode for realtime local support.

• Our LoCo forum, at http://forums.ubuntu.com.my is also available for local support via forum. But lately, people are more on facebook.

  • We have various teams involved with this:

    • translations and localization (l10n)  —  we have done translations via launchpad (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-ms); this is a continuous process

    • documentations  —  Wiki (http://wiki.ubuntu.com.my) & Ubuntu Manual Project (http://ubuntu-manual.org/) and we are emphasising more on documentation for 2012/2013 as stated in roadmap above

Experience / Efforts

• Ubuntu-MY Poster 1^st October 2012 - Still Ongoing
  Ubuntu-MY are doing Ubuntu Awareness Project by providing ubuntu posters for free to schools and college around Malaysia.This project are still in progress in which the poster art has been acquired via competition within Ubuntu-MY members in Facebook Group. We are now in the process of getting approval from all Ubuntu-MY key members for fund-raising donation. below are the poster's artwork that has been selected as a winner.

• Free & Open Source Software Campaign for Consumers FOMCA Digital Mall PJ 16^th June 2012 FOMCA (Federation Of Malaysian Consumer Association) organising an event to encourage vendor to ship low-cost laptop with usable and free operating system. Ubuntu-MY took parts in the events and promoting ubuntu. Ubuntu CD's in this project are provided by Canonical.

• Ubuntu-MY Meetup And UDS Freebies 10^th June 2012
  fenris create this event to discuss some issues and experience attending UDS-Q and ubuntu-my in general. Some freebies from UDS-Q also been handover to members attend the meetup.
  

• Ubuntu-My Precise Pangoline Release Party 29^th April 2012
  In celebrating Precise Pangolin release we made Geeknic Release Party. We had upgrade, testing and discussion about Precise Pangolin, Ubuntu-MY and also family oriented game. Also, from this party we managed to collect MYR 180.00 fund for Ubuntu-MY future project. Full report of the release party and album for more pictures

• Ubuntu-MY Global Jam Event 4^th March 2012
  We have conducted Ubuntu Global Jam event and doing Upgrade, Packaging (learn basic) and translations theme during the Jam.

• Ubuntu-MY Ubuntu Awareness Booth at KMPP College Pulau Pinang 18^th February 2012
  KMPP College held a 2012 KMPP Co-Curriculum Carnival for 2 weeks from 11^th February 2012  —  22^th February 2012 and in 18^th February Ubuntu-MY participate by running a booth and gave Ubuntu Awareness Program towards KMPP student and visitors about Ubuntu. Several student laptop has been installed with ubuntu. Flyers, CD and lanyard has been distributed as well.

• Ubuntu-MY 1st meetup  —  4^th February 2012
  Our first meetup for 2012, with ice-breaking sessions, Ubuntu-MY related disscussion and some goodies/freebies such as stickers and ubuntu cds from Fenris to members who attend the meetup.
