A few do's and don'ts

Do's

Help us develop the software, remember it makes a difference to a lot of people.

Develop relationships, open source is first and foremost driven by communities, collections of like-minded individuals who all are working towards a common goal, most people are human and you can have a decent conversation with them, try it.

Develop yourself, if you want to progress then this is something that you will need to do, nobody starts at the top, here there isn't really a top, but as you progress you can get involved with more people, more projects, making Ubuntu better for everybody.

Don'ts

Please try to treat everybody with respect, it is easy to forget that our users might never have filed a bug report before. Some users will not know the difference between proprietary and open source software. Heaven forbid, some users may not even know the difference between vim and a jvm. We will try to treat each individual with respect and remember we were all new once.

We will have disagreements amongst ourselves and with our upstream developers, please remember that it's only a disagreement and try to not let it get out of hand.

In all of our correspondences we will be professional and courteous, simply because of the old saying, "Treat others the way you would like to be treated".

Please only do what you truly believe is right. If you feel that proprietary software is not right, simply work on making the open source parts better. If you feel that proprietary software has a place in the community, that is fine as well.
