Raphaƫl Pinson aka Raphink

I am a 23 year-old french guy, previously studying aeronautical engineering in Poitiers, France.

My first contact with Ubuntu was in January 2005 with Warty PPC. I found it interesting but at that time I chose to use Debian Sid on my PC instead and began to work on the [http://alioth.debian.org/projects/ichthux/ Ichthux] project, which is a CDD project aimed to christian users and communities. For the purpose, I had to learn to package.

As such, I was part of a Linux meeting in Valencia to work with the custom-debian group on state and the future of CDDs. There I met Mark Shuttleworth and heard about Edubuntu, that he was presenting at this conference.

In october 2005, I tried Ubuntu again and was amazed by it. I began to use Kubuntu as my main distribution and soon after to package KDE apps for Dapper.

My vision of Ubuntu

I see Ubuntu as the only Debian-based system aimed to improve the desktop Linux approach while still respecting the Debian ideology. I am a Debian fan for many reasons and I think Ubuntu is a breath of fresh air for the Debian world.

Why I'm applying for Ubuntu membership

As you can see on this page, I'm currently involved in packaging for Kubuntu. As of now, there is a lack of MOTUs to check KDE packages on REVU. I upload quite a lot of packages, but they are not reviewed before long. I began reviewing other people's packages and sending comments by email, forwarded to MOTUs. I now have reviewing rights, but I would like to become a MOTU so I can help with this necessary task.

My contributions to Ubuntu

Packaging

I have made a few packages for Kubuntu, to be included in the universe repository as part of Ubuntu 6.04 Dapper Drake :

Bug tracking

I reported a few bugs, including bugs [http://revu.tauware.de/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/ticket/9 #9] and [http://revu.tauware.de/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/ticket/11 #11] on the [http://revu.tauware.de/cgi-bin/trac.cgi REVU-Development-Center].

IRC

I spend a lot of time on IRC channels on irc.freenode.net, helping users in #ubuntu* and #kubuntu* channels and getting helped in devel and motu channels (huhu) Wink ;) I administrate #kubuntu-fr and #kubuntu-it.
