Use xbindkeys to set the brightness functionality to a key combination like Super_L + F5 or Super_L + F6.
Simply start a bashscript at the multikey press event and set the brightness with xbacklight.
Note: xbacklight isn't work without changing backlight control to the native mode ("xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native").
To dim the backlight by switching in battery mode put a bashscript in /etc/acpi/battery.d and 
/etc/acpi/ac.d.
