I am Vidya from India and a proud Ubuntu user on my PC. From a dual-boot PC in the first half of 2005 to a full Ubuntu PC running Breezy today, my Linux journey has been a very positive experience. I had always wanted to volunteer and the "ship-it" program allows me to to not just use the latest version, but also spread the cheer around. Another thing I like the most about FLOSS is the welcoming attitude and freedom granted to anyone with an interest in learning Linux. Each individual has an equal opportunity and can improve their skills as per their interests, as there are no restrictions on the basis of country, age, qualification, gender and other irrelevant things. ||<tablestyle="float:right; font-size: 0.9em; width:30%; background:#F7EFDF url(/Classroom/MockUp?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=watermark.png) no-repeat right; margin: 0 0 1em 1em;" style="padding:0.5em;"><<TableOfContents>>||

== Ubuntu and me ==

 * Setup the [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWomen Ubuntu-Women] team and admin its mailing list.

Currently many Indian women are active locally as part of translation teams or as Linux users but I would like to see an active participation in the technical arena too. To achieve this, I am trying to learn about packaging, testing and learning other technical details about Ubuntu and its relation with Debian and how they work in tandem.

 * Advocacy and plan of action :

1] Increased Ubuntu-awareness in India : To achieve this I had distributed the first batch of surplus Hoary CD's to many people locally and am happy to note that mostly students used it more than engineers. With Breezy one RH user has become a Ubuntuite. Next, I plan to distribute the Breezy CD's to local school students.

2] With the setting up of our [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IndianTeam Ubuntu-IN] team, we plan to spread Ubuntu among local users. Rather than just evangelising about Ubuntu-Linux and handing out free CD's, a more focussed approach would be to target specific people (non-Linux users willing to try it) and install/dual-boot Ubuntu for them if they cant do it themselves. Direct them to the LoCo team and International help lists, if they need the same.
