Hello and Welcome !

I am Vidya from India and a proud Ubuntu user on my PC. From a dual-boot PC in the first half of 2005 to a full Ubuntu PC running Breezy today, my Linux journey has been a very positive experience. What i like the most about FLOSS is the welcoming attitude and freedom granted to anyone with an interest in learning Linux. Each individual has an equal opportunity and can improve their skills as per their interests, as there are no restrictions on the basis of country, age, qualification, gender and other irrelevant things.

FLOSS Volunteer contribution

* Administer 2 mailing lists with [http://www.linuxchix.org LinuxChix], an online community for women "using" Linux.

* Wrote a Sanskrit (SA) language locale with Christian (bubulle) Perrier which awaits inclusion in the Debian package : belocs-locales-data and also in package: locales (version: 2.3.5-6)

Ubuntu Volunteer contribution

* List admin for [https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-women Ubuntu-Women] mailing list.

* Currently translate for the Sanskrit localisation of packages in Ubuntu for Indian languages.

* Ocassionally squash bugs on Malone and Ubuntu-bugzilla.

Ubuntu and me

* Setup the [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWomen Ubuntu-Women] team and admin its mailing list.

Currently many Indian women are active locally as part of translation teams or as Linux users but I would like to see an active participation in the technical arena too. To achieve this, I am trying to learn about packaging, testing and learning other technical details about Ubuntu and its relation with Debian and how they work in tandem.

* Advocacy : Increase Ubuntu-awareness in India : To achieve this I had distributed the first batch of surplus Hoary CD's to many people locally and am happy to note that mostly students used it more than engineers. With Breezy one RH user has become a Ubuntuer. Next, I plan to distribute the Breezy CD's to local school students.
