Notes This is my second wiki report for this laptop. It was running 11.10 for a while but failed upgrade and came back to me for fresh install. I got this laptop as a faulty under windows 7 but found to run quite fine with Ubuntu with "acpi=off". Initially it was crashing or freezing after booting into gnome. Once ACPI was disabled laptop started to become stable. It means however no suspend or battery information. For that reason I could not test those functions. Other than that everything works fine including soft multimedia buttons over the keyboard. This is my second case where laptop with hardware fault can still be used under Linux. Some keyboard function keys on keyboard don't work. Those include:

  • fn touchpad switch off (there are two - one over the touchpad and on the keyboard)
  • fn wifi switch off on keyboard. Second hardware switch works fine.
  • screen lock

Nvidia graphic card is a bit funny one. With default opensource drivers resolution is very low, and you couldn’t extend display to VGA port or HDMI. With proprietary driver (throught jockey-gtk) resolution is fine and you can change it through Ubuntu system settings. To extend display to VGA or HDMI you have to go through "NVIDIA X Server settings". Even though you can choose "digital output" in sound settings, nothing is coming out of my TV. You can not also display 3 screens at the time (laptop,VGA and HDMI) even in very low resolution. When you start laptop with HDMI or VGA connected, it makes it your primary display through BIOS and boot process, but one you are logged into Unity it disappears and you have to set it through NVIDIA X Server settings any way (there is button to save config to xorg.conf).
