I'm an UNIX administrator working now fulltime for the Computing Centre of Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in Finland. Current work involves administering 220+ Dapper workstations and some Tru64-UNIX servers and clusters. When not working, I'm trying to finish my master's degree (major: semiconductors and materials of electronics), other hobbies include singing in a mixed choir and various sports (ultimate, floorball, soccer) | I'm an UNIX administrator working now fulltime for the Computing Centre of Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in Finland. About me
I'm an UNIX administrator working now fulltime for the Computing Centre of Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in Finland. Current work involves administering ~300 Hardy workstations and some Tru64-UNIX servers and clusters. When not working, I'm trying to finish my master's degree (major: semiconductors and materials of electronics), other hobbies include singing in a mixed choir and various sports (ultimate, floorball, soccer)
I've been using Linux since 1998; first briefly SuSE, then Debian unstable until in November 2004 I had to reinstall my laptop and decided to try Ubuntu because of the Debian heritage. Now my home computer runs Dapper, and some/most of my friends have installed Ubuntu as well and are very pleased.
Skills
- General UNIX-administration, mostly Linux and Tru64 UNIX (+Trucluster)
shell & some perl, other languages read-only for now
- deb-packaging (in-house packages for Ansys, Maple, Mathematica, Matlab and others...)
What I'm interested in
- GNOME, in general
- NFSv4 support. Essential for installations behind insecure networks
- making sure that Ubuntu behaves well in a campus network with hundreds of clients
- improving the framework for automatic installations
- improving various tools aimed at system administrators
- VDR
- X.org
