About me
I'm an UNIX administrator working now fulltime for the Computing Centre of Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in Finland. Current work involves administering 220+ Dapper workstations and some Tru64-UNIX servers and clusters. When not working, I'm trying to finish my master's degree (major: semiconductors and materials of electronics), other hobbies include singing in a mixed choir and various sports (ultimate, floorball, soccer)
I've been using Linux since 1998; first briefly SuSE, then Debian unstable until in November 2004 I had to reinstall my laptop and decided to try Ubuntu because of the Debian heritage. Now my home computer runs Dapper, and some/most of my friends have installed Ubuntu as well and are very pleased.
Skills
- General UNIX-administration, mostly Linux and Tru64 UNIX (+Trucluster)
shell & some perl, other languages read-only for now
- deb-packaging (in-house packages for Ansys, Maple, Mathematica, Matlab and others...)
What I'm interested in
- GNOME, in general
- NFSv4 support. Essential for installations behind insecure networks
- making sure that Ubuntu behaves well in a campus network with hundreds of clients
- improving the framework for automatic installations
- improving various tools aimed at system administrators
VDR (like mythtv/mediacenter but better suited for DVB set-top boxes
- X.org
Contributions so far
- distributed 650 Hoary CD's for the TKK students in September 2005
- some minor patches, mostly upstream
- bug reports here and there
bug triaging every now and then https://launchpad.net/people/tepsipakki/+karma
gtkpod-aac... http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=1908
- testing fully automated netboot-installations since May 2005

leading ubuntu-vdr team, but Feisty UVF&FF came too early to get much done for Feisty NEW:
- merged/synced X.org 7.2 in Feisty, with the help of Core-devs (seb128, kylem, pitti...)
Todo
- possibly integrate in-house applications/scripts with Ubuntu, although they need to be released to the wild first
- help make PAM/LDAP/krb5 integration better
more and better VDR-related packages [http://www.e-tobi.net/blog/pages/vdr-repository/], together with Debian vdr-team, starting with edgy+1
