Welcome

This is the wiki page of the UK Local Community Team. We aim to provide free community support to users of the various flavours of Ubuntu as well as advocating the use of Ubuntu to individuals and organisations alike. We keep in touch via our active [https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk email list] and [:UKTeam/IRC: IRC chatroom].

Who is this group for?

This group is for anyone in the United Kingdom who uses or is interested in some flavour of Ubuntu, whether it's Ubuntu, Kubuntu or any others. This group is for people of all technical abilities from I've-never-heard-of-linux all the way to I'm-an-Ubuntu-Master.

How do I join?

There is no official process to join, just sign up to our [http://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk mailing list] or come and chat in our Internet Relay Chat ([:UKTeam/IRC:IRC]) chatroom (#ubuntu-uk on irc.freenode.net). You can also add yourself to the list of current members in [https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-uk launchpad] and it would be nice if you could update the [:UKTeam/UKLugMembers: LUG Members Page] if you are indeed a member of a LUG or [:UKTeam/OtherGroups: Other Groups Members Page] if you are a memeber of any other linux related groups.

We also maintain a list of some UK-specific [:UKTeam/Hardware: hardware support]. Support is also available from the [http://www.ubuntu.com/support global Ubuntu community]

Meetings

We will actively organise face-to-face meetings so members of the team or those interested in being part of the team can meet and exchange their knowledge, ideas and thoughts on the team/future direction etc.

Government certification

Get Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper) government certified

In order to be used in Public Sector workplaces Ubuntu needs to be certified according to the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Criteria Common Criteria] ( [http://www.cesg.gov.uk/site/iacs/index.cfm?menuSelected=1&displayPage=13 see also]). Certification by one nation (e.g. UK) also carries elsewhere (e.g. France). See [http://www.cesg.gov.uk/site/iacs/index.cfm?menuSelected=1&displayPage=16 Certification Centres]
