New Features in UbuntuKylin 13.04 Release

As with all alphas and betas they are not suitable for a production environment. This formal release version of UbuntuKylin contains:

• Updated kernel (3.8 series).

More accurate weather information for China cities, with PM2.5 data (air pollution index) that's crucial to every Chinese citizen and detailed weather forecast.

Easy to use, authoritative Chinese calendar, contains the traditional lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar, facilitates inquiries of public holidays, familiar to Chinese citizens.

• Fcitx Input Method

Fcitx is used as the default input method, support cloud Pinyin input and more intelligent word association.

System Requirements

A Pentium II or Celeron system with 512 MB of RAM is probably a bottom-line configuration that may yield slow yet usable system with a standard UbuntuKylin desktop.

13.04 32 bit ISO require your CPU to have Physical Address Extensions, or PAE. "PAE is provided by Intel Pentium Pro and above CPUs, including all later Pentium-series processors (except most 400 MHz-bus versions of the Pentium M)." - If you have a NON-PAE CPU and would like to install Ubuntu 12.10, please see this link or you can use Ubuntu 12.04 instead. For Intel based Macs, UbuntuKylin 13.04 should run on all models.

Known Issues

Installation

Place the DVD in the drive and restart the computer.Remember to change your BIOS settings to boot on DVD.After a while,you should see:

Press "Install UbuntuKylin",the Installer Guide appears:

Select your language and press the “Forward” button.

Make sure you have the recommended amount of disk space.Then press the “Forward” button.

• If you choose to use the entire disk, its content will be erased and UbuntuKylin will be installed as the only operating system on your computer

• If you choose to install it alongside other operating systems, the installer will use the free space available on other partitions to create a new one for UbuntuKylin.

• You also can choose to specify partitions manually.This is recommended only to advanced users who understand how partitioning works under Linux.

Choose the appropriate option and click on the “Forward” button.

When ready press the “Install Now” button to start the installation.

Choose your location on the map by clicking on the city which is the nearest to you.Then press the “Forward” button.

Select your keyboard layout.

Enter a username and password.You’ll use your account with this username and password when you use UbuntuKylin.If you're the only one using the computer and you want to bypass the login screen, check the option “Log in automatically”.

The installation should take between 10 and 15 minutes.Once the installation is done click the “Restart Now” button and the liveDVD environment will shut down.
