Requirements

Because we want to give everyone using Ubuntu One the very best experience, we require that you run Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) or higher.

Setup instructions for Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)

Ubuntu One comes pre-installed on Ubuntu 9.10. Before setting up Ubuntu One, you should ensure your system is up to date. Run Update Manager to install any necessary updates by going to System » Administration » Update Manager. You may need to restart your system. Once it's up to date, you can begin this setup process.

  1. Open Applications » Internet » Ubuntu One



  2. A web browser will open and prompt you to either sign in or create an account. Ubuntu One uses the Ubuntu single sign on (SSO) service so if you have a Launchpad account or another account that uses the Ubuntu SSO service, you can sign in with that. If you have an account, sign in and skip down to step 7. If you don't have an account, no worries, you can sign up for a new account following the steps below.



  3. Click the New Account button to create an Ubuntu SSO account that you can use to login to Ubuntu One.

  4. Enter your email address, the words displayed in the captcha image below the email address field, and then click the Continue button.



  5. Check your email for a message from "Login Service" with the subject of "Login Service: Finish your registration". Open this email and click on the link to continue the Ubuntu SSO registration process.
  6. Complete your Ubuntu SSO registration by filling in the form and clicking the Continue button.



  7. Click the Yes, sign me in button to sign in to Ubuntu One.



  8. In order to sync, you must explicitly add your computer to the list of devices that sync with your personal cloud. To add your computer to your Ubuntu One account, click on the Add this Computer button'. New users adding their first computer will also accept the Ubuntu One Terms & Conditions.



  9. You should now be connected with the Ubuntu One Client applet showing you are connected in your task bar. Use the applet to manage the preferences of Ubuntu One as well as to connect and disconnect from the service.

Installation and setup instructions for Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)

  1. Add our PPA (Personal Package Archive) to get access to the Ubuntu One client software. Click on the link below to install our PPA:

  2. Install the Ubuntu One client from the PPA by clicking on the link below:

    Install ubuntuone-client-gnome



    Note: If you're using a non-Firefox web browser, you can install the client by going to System » Administration » Synaptic Package Manager and searching for ubuntuone-client-gnome

  3. Now that you have the software installed, you'll need to authorize it. On your computer, click on System » Preferences » Ubuntu One to start the process.
