Vacant Developer Membership Board seat: Call for nominations

Stefano Rivera announces an upcoming vacancy in the RMB and opens a call for nominations to fill the vacancy.

Java packages in Partner archive to be removed on 2012-02-16

Marc Deslauriers announces that they will simply remove Java Packages in Partner Archive as result of Oracle retiring the Operating System Distributor License for Java, rather than replacing them with empty packages as previously stated, in order to prevent unexpected failures.

New feature – Customise your bug listings

The Launchpad Orange Squad has adjusted bug listings so that they can now be customized by the user. “You can now sort bugs by criteria such as name, importance, status and age” and adjust criteria as needed. They have also updated how they are displayed and notes that formal user research played an important part in these changes.

Looking for PHP Developers to assist with forums upgrade

The official Ubuntu Forums at ubuntuforums.org have a new brand theme designed and are prepped to upgrade to a new version of the vbulletin software. However, vbulletin does not support OpenID and this is a requirement for the upgrade and rebranding to occur so they are in need of PHP developers who can work with the Forums Council and Canonical IS to get this written.

Daniel Holbach discusses the announcement from Iain Lane on ubuntu-devel-announce that “syncpackage” now has the ability to directly perform syncs from Debian without having to get the sync through the archive admin queue first. He also tests syncpackage and details the parameters he used.

Victor Tuson Palau: Ubuntu Certification – Website Improvements

Victor Tuson Palau details improvements to the Ubuntu Hardware Certification website that include: displaying what components are included on the certified system in the search results, an icon to indicate whether the system is only certified with a vendor image or with the standard Ubuntu image and a new and simpler search interface.

Unity’s Dash to Ditch Giant Shortcuts

Joey Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! shares details of the new layout that Unity developers are testing for the Unity Home lense which may “display an overview of recent user activity under the headings “Recent Apps” (which won’t feature those apps locked to the Launcher), “Recent Files”, and ‘Downloads’.” Sneddon shares the rationale behind this and his own thoughts regarding the change.
