Jonathan Riddell: Ubuntu Archive Still Free Software

Jonathan Riddell writes about Ubuntu’s commitment to the principles of free software development, and Canonical’s recent IP policy which he claims have broken the GPL and free licences. He writes that various Canonical staff members have apologized, but Jonathan explores this issue as well as linking with many other writers opinions on the topic, and critiquing their opinions.

Rohan Garg: Legalese is vague: Always consult a lawyer

Rohan Garg’s (shadeslayer) response to the aforementioned post by Jonathan Riddell on Canonical’s IP rights policy. Rohan too refers to other bloggers opinions (including the FSF) highlighting the fact that the jurisdiction you live in (and ISOs are hosted) affects the copyrights Canonical claim.

Jono Bacon: Ubuntu, Canonical, and IP

Jono Bacon airs his views on Canonical’s IP rights policy, reminding us of what Canonical and Mark Shuttleworth have said, and provided with Ubuntu and their commitment to freedom. Jono then examines it from the opposing side of the argument, before asking readers how they feel Canonical should derive revenue.
