The Kubuntu team announces the arrival of their new website that coincides with the move to Plasma 5. They acknowledge those that helped, appeal for further help with web development, packaging and documentation, and end by saying: “Please use our new site to find what you need, and tell us if you find something which needs improvement.”

Didier Roche: Ubuntu Make 15.09 featuring experimental Unity 3D editor support

Didier Roche reminds us of the port of Unity 3D (Game Engine) to Linux. He speaks of its inclusion into Ubuntu Make, links to the release notes, issue tracker and encourages people to do pull requests (Contribute).

Ian Weisser: You should be using Find-a-Task

Ian Weisser reminds us that Find-a-Task was introduced in January 2015 to show volunteers the variety of tasks and roles available to those wanting to contribute to Ubuntu. He urges his readers to use it, asks teams whether they are listed, and encourages ideas and suggestions to improve and increase usage of the tool to be sent to the ubuntu-community-team mailing list.

Svetlana Belkin: Membership Board Member Interviews: Aaron Honeycutt

In the seventh interview of the series, Svetlana Belkin talks to Ubuntu Membership Board member Aaron Honeycutt about his career, his first computing experience and some of the projects that he’s worked on over the years. Aaron says that his focus on Ubuntu today is getting every Documentation team to work together in a similar fashion .” He also shares with us his comment: “Once you find that spot when your both needed and want to be, you’ll find happiness in the community.”

Ubuntu App Developer Blog: Snappy Ubuntu + Mycroft = Love

David Planella writes that since the Mycroft AI project decided to go the Open Source and Open Hardware path they picked Ubuntu Snappy as their platform for the IoT (Internet of Things). He says that with Ubuntu Snappy they have found designing the system to be much easier from package creation with snappy packages to applying updates.

Daniel Holbach: Free Culture and Ubuntu

Daniel Holbach writes that thanks to Nathan Haines and José Antonio Rey we again have the Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase, Ubuntu’s way of acknowledging that there’s not just free software but wallpapers, videos and audio that can be included in Ubuntu. He links to a wiki page from where further information can be found and says: “You still have some time to submit your works for the competition. The winners are going to get their free culture works included in Ubuntu itself. “

Michael Hall: Share a link, win a Mycroft!

Michael Hall announces a competition in which Mycroft have joined with Ubuntu to give away a free device. He says that the Artificial Intelligence company are in the final days of their Kickstarter campaign and the contest will spread awareness of the project. Michael informs us of how to enter the competition and that the prize is a “Mycroft Extendable unit ($149 level on Kickstarter), which makes the HDMI and GPIO ports easily accessible for hackers and makers to extend it’s functionality by connecting it to other devices.”

Ubuntu Phone Team Lead Leaves Canonical

Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! writes that Cristian Parrino, the team lead for the Ubuntu Phone project has left Canonical and that his position will be filled by other members of the team and Canonical chief Jane Silber. Joey-Elijah takes a quick look at other employees that have left the company and says of Parrino: “But although we’re sad he’s leaving we just know he’s going to do wonderful things in the future.”

That Awkward Ubuntu Tablet Plans To Go Up For Pre-Order Soon

Michael Larabel of Phoronix reports that MJ Technology, inspired by the failed Ubuntu Edge campaign, is to start accepting pre-orders for their unofficial Ubuntu tablet in January. Michael gives us some specifications of the device, shows us some screenshots, and raises his concern that the company has no proven track record, they haven’t even contacted Canonical. and that they’re aiming to use the desktop version of Ubuntu rather than the Phone/Touch version that’s designed for such form factors.

The Death of Ubuntu's Software Center

Matt Hartley of Datamation looks at the alternatives that some of the Ubuntu flavors and derivatives are using in preference to the Ubuntu Software Center. He puts forward the argument that a software store is not there for ease of installation but somewhere where reviews and features lists can be read, and applications can be visually discovered. Matt also notes that the move away from Debian packaging will be slow as will the death of the Software Center.

Ubuntu Snappy Core Runs on Banana Pi BPI-M2 with Linux Kernel 4.1.6, Download Now

Marius Nestor of Softpedia writes that the Banana Pi project have announced that Snappy Ubuntu Core runs on the Banana Pi BPI-M2 which is a single board computer powered by an ARM7 processor with 1GB of RAM.
